Even though Boyle will come out intense, because of reason #3, the game IMO will be closer than one might think.

 

Again, because of reason #2, the game will be closer than it could be if the starters did play the whole game. I think we're in agreement on this aspect.

District Champions: 1965, 1977, 1982, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008

Regional Champions: 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004

 

** 1996 Danville was District Champions but we won the Region and lost at Breathitt County in the Simi Finals.

 

** 1997 Boyle ended with a 11-1 record winning the district and losing to Bourbon County in the playoffs in a sloppy rain. Boyle beat Bourbon 33-0 in the regular season. Bourbon went on to win the state championship that year.

 

** 1999-2004 was the 6 straight years that Boyle made the State Championship Finals. 2004 was the last year Boyle won the Regional. They lost to Bullitt East in the 2005 Regional Finals.

 

Please confirm this information, I am going by memory and what information I have in a old program.

Boyle won the old district Title in 1977 and 1982. I also believe they won it in 1965 but don't know if they made the playoffs because it might have been the point system then.

 

Boyle lost both times in the Regional contests ('77 and '82) to Corbin. They won a sub-district title in '83 and lost to Somerset in the District playoff but that team won that mainly because there were only 3 squads in the sub-district. (Team went 3-8 but played Somerset tough into the 4th quarter)

 

The Rebels won the CKC (Central Kentucky Conference) title in 1979 (when the Rebels finished 9-1) and 1982. In those days the Conference title was something to be proud of because it included Henry Clay, Somerset, Danville, Woodford County, Lincoln, Harrodsburg, among others. It was awarded based on a points system of CKC games played and points (wins) by those defeated.

 

Remember 1963 was the only unbeaten Rebel team until 1999. They were 9-0 but did not qualify for a district or playoffs because of their new team stature. (Ask Morris Allen Stewart for sure. He was on that team)

That was 1984, not 1983. I was on that Somerset team, Boyle had a couple of blocked kicks and played us very tough at Somerset.

:thumb: That Boyle County win in 1982 very likely cost Somerset a State Title. That loss kept the Jumpers out of the playoffs but they went to Corbin a couple of weeks later and beat the Redhounds pretty handily. Corbin went on to win the Title. I was a 7th grader that year but it is still one of the best games I've seen in person.

I was in the broadcast booth that night and I've always ranked that Jumper team up there as one of the best teams never to win a State Title. It was just a night when Boyle made the one extra big play to get a win by the slimmest of margins. It was the opposite of the year before when Boyle dominated the stats and lost to Somerset in OT. I know it was heartbreaking for those Jumpers because I felt similarly about a certain 9-1 Boyle team.

Somerset had something like 400 yards of offense and Boyle had about 200. RB Scott Stephens had about 201 of them himself.

 

The Rebels scored on a KO return and a couple of long pass plays. The Jumpers had about 4 or so Turnovers as well.

 

Stephens scored with about :23 left and went for 2 and the win (sound familiar Rebel? :cry:). But instead of letting Stephens carry it they ran an option and the QB (Neikerk ?) was stopped about a yard short by Todd Noe and Billy West. Like Average Joe said, it was one of the most exciting High School games I ever saw and/or broadcasted. :thumb:

 

BTW, looking at your avatar, when did you ever get assigned and RB/QB number??? It sure wasn't foreshadowing was it?

Now lets do some more prediction.The Warriors' size worries me,I just don't know about this one,could be the biggest test yet for Boyle and I'm sure Coach French will come up with something in order for them to pull this one out in the W column,or will he? A L is a possibility for Boyle if things don't go right,remember it is Halloween night and on those nights anything can happen.

So,here we go as I see a overtime in this game as the ghosts in the past will come out to spook away a W from Boyle.:scared:
