If Dayton and Bellevue merged, wouldn't that put them at about the same average 2 year enrollment as Newport?

 

Dayton enrollment = 295

Bellevue enrollment = 266

----

Total = 571

Newport = 576

 

The combined school would be 2A.

Winning is important, yes. And winning a state title every now and then would be glorious. Agreed with that too. But there's something about this game. It's what small-town USA is all about. A battle between two schools where the "will and hunger" is poured onto the field to defeat the rivaled opponent. If the two schools merged, they might be good for a while, but all tradition, all the legacy, the feel of a Friday night game against your most hated opponent, everything would be gone.

The game would be missed by all, but I think the merged school (if only Dayton and Bellevue merged) would be very competitive year in and year out. The problem these two schools have is what Dayton is going through right now, in '04 they had about 6 seniors, '05-16, '06-7, '07-16, '08-5. They go back and forth with these small numbers. Bellevue has the same problem. With the added enrollment and the football tradition both of schools bring with them they would very competitive. Not every single year, but IMO most.

I agree, theres no doubt in my mind that the new team would be pretty darn good. Imagine a Sherlock, Buckler, Barrett, Richardson offense. Wow. But what I'm saying is IMO, your losing more than gaining. Just one mans opinion

Not assuming, but guessing by the way you put things, must not of been the biggest athlete in highschool? Really I'm not sure, but by combining these two you create a new huge rivalry with I think NCC.. I know that if my teams had the chance to beat them it would be a huge highlight, not sure how Dayton kids feel about them, but in Bellevue lets just say we feel about them, well the way everyone feels about slow service :lol:

I'm not sure why your so defensive. I gave my opinion, and then you make somewhat "unassuming" personal attacks. I'm saying tradition, legacy, history is the most important thing in a small town like Bellevue.
