(Be neighborly or go directly to jail.)
September 18, 200818 yr What % does he want them to pay? Where do you draw the line? This could get out of control. If taxes are up around 50% for the rich they will work much less. A lot of them own sole proprieterships or partnerships and employee a good number of individuals. There could be bad effects from this.

If you want to have money, you will not quit working because your taxes go up. You will either make more money and not worry about it, or you will find ways to hide. I would venture to say that it is also a moral duty.
September 18, 200818 yr bull. If you want to have money, you will not quit working because your taxes go up. You will either make more money and not worry about it, or you will find ways to hide. I would venture to say that it is also a moral duty. If paying federal income taxes is a moral duty for the rich, then are the 40 percent of Americans who pay no federal income taxes immoral? What about those people who have cell phones, multiple TVs, game consoles, and other luxury items who accept federal income tax refunds in excess of the amount withheld from their paychecks? Are thy acting in a moral way? Socialism by whatever name you want to call it that involves compulsory "patriotism" and "neighborliness" is not a moral way to govern a nation of free people.

I would venture to say that it is also a moral duty. Its not bull. A lot of business owners have to put their personal assets at risk in starting or developing their businesses. Impose very high taxes on their revenues (thus decreasing the possible returns on investment) and 1. the willingness to incur those personal risks drops, or 2. they find ways to maintain their profitability by decreasing the wages and benefits they pay to their employees or they outsource jobs overseas to remain competitive with their overseas competitors that don't have to pay the high taxes or they high illegals willing to work very cheaply. None of those outcomes I think is desirable.
September 18, 200818 yr Biden: Wealthy Americans Must Pay More Taxes to Show Patriotism http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/18/biden-wealthy-americans-must-pay-more-taxes-to-show-patriotism/ Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says that paying higher taxes is the patriotic thing to do for wealthier Americans. Biden says he and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama want to “take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people.” Under the Democrats’ economic plan, people earning more than $250,000 a year would pay more in taxes while those earning less — the vast majority of American taxpayers — would receive a tax cut. Biden told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Thursday that, in his words, “it’s time to be patriotic … time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut.”
September 18, 200818 yr Whats funny is that they (Obama and Biden...and the Clintons) say that , yet everyone of them claim deductions on their tax returns. They can also choose to pay more in taxes every year. So why arent they already doing this....why are they taking deductions? Every American is welcome to pay more in taxes every year...
September 18, 200818 yr Then, assumedly, Biden would be happy with our current situation. The top 1% of taxpayers earn 21.2% of all income, but pay 39.4% of all federal income taxes.
September 18, 200818 yr bull. If you want to have money, you will not quit working because your taxes go up. You will either make more money and not worry about it, or you will find ways to hide. I would venture to say that it is also a moral duty. Again, I ask where do you draw the line? What do you want their marginal or effective tax rates to be? 50%? 60? 70?

A lot of them own sole proprieterships or partnerships and employee a good number of individuals. There could be bad effects from this. Oh no, they'll go from making 50 million to 45 million dollars a year. Who cares that the middle class and poor are suffering now, I mean there's a lot more rich people in the U.S.

September 18, 200818 yr As I posted on the other thread...Then why is Obama, Biden, and the Clintons taking deductions? They can CHOOSE to not take any deductions... This is such hiprocracy! Why dont they elect to not only not take deductions but too pay a higher rate. They have that option.
