The whole think is a little dark for my taste.

Same here, also could throw in girls creative out fits as well. I tend to be a big fan of some of the "costumes" the ladies come up with.:devil:

I suggest anyone near a State Park to research their fall activity list and see if they are having a Trick or Treat Night. In Laurel County (Levi Jackson) they have a trick or treat night the week before Halloween and the parks are absolutely filled with decorations that campers compete for prizes and they hand out candy. It is free for to go trick or treating and is one of my favorite times of the year. I know several parks statwide that host these activites. There are usually 5,000 to 8,000 children running rampant in the campground, it is amazing.

I really enjoy giving out candy to the Kids that dress up,and come around the neighborhood...:thumb:

That sounds great. I would love to take the kids to something like that.

I love dressing up and goofing around with the neighborhood kids. This year I am going out as Captain Spalding, since I have been told that I have an uncanny resemblance to him with my head shaved. I also collect gargoyles, so this is one of my favorite times of year to find them. I have added 3 new ones in the last couple of weeks.:ylsuper:

I have his Hollywood costume from head to toe, it is frightening to smaller children though, it is an awesome costume. I love Captain Spalding.

My wife and I love to watch all the kids come and trick or treat with all of their costumes and such. We really get kick out of it. As for going all out ourselves we do not. Maybe a little decoration at the door for trick or treat night but it to me is all about the kids.

Halloween is certainly nothing like it used to be, it is so sad to say that there are so much dangers for the kids out there today that it is no wonder why a lot of communities & parents have went with "halloween/trick or treat" parties for the kids in lieu of trick or treat door to door.The kids still do a lot of that (door to door) in our little town but in some other places for the most part do not.

Just a sad sign of the times and how sick this world has become when parents have to worry about some sick individual putting something in candy but that is a real threat, rather it be some kind of drug or foriegn object is just sick. I know that a hospital in our area offered free x-rays for kids candy at one time. I don't know if that is still a policy or not but I believe that it is.

I've always loved Halloween. I worked at our school's haunted "Ghoul School" when I was little. Hid behind a black curtain and animated a real skeleton, using fishing line. The house was awesome; but it ended up being shut down by the fire marshall after the Beverly Hills fire.

 

My brother and I also had a haunted house in our garage when we were real little, then another one in our basement after we moved. That one was funny. We had a line of people that went all the way around the house; but we kept letting people in free if they'd agree to work with us. :lol:

 

I'd love to have one of those cool displays in our front yard. But living on the main drag, the stuff wouldn't last long. If somebody wants me to work their haunted house--I'm available--and work cheap. What's better, I've come up with a freaky effect that only I could pull off...without dying that is. :sssh:

Halloween used to be my favorite holiday. As a kid who didnt love to get all the candy, then you would always have those people that gave you the pennies that you never wanted:lol: Now its just another holiday.

One year during my WKU days, we were drinking at the dorm (gasp!) and we decided to go out trick-or-treating to see how much candy we could load up on. On a whim, we decided to go dressed as 2 Live Crew, because we had to dress as something, and one of our buddies was/still is a dead ringer for Luther Campbell (he even had a fake gold tooth he put on to add a little more reality). I was a little bit harder sell as the group's "Samoan Guy," but I matched up with him size-wise, despite my pasty skin tone.

 

The looks we got were hilarious. We got more than a couple "aren't you too old for this" comments, especially when we walked up to people's doors with beers in hand. But our costumes were too good, and they couldn't say no. We ended up with about five plastic grocery bags full of various types of sweets.

When I was little I loved going trick or treating. We'd come home and dump our loot in the middle of the living room floor then trade around for the things we wanted most. Since then my nephew was born on Halloween. Hay rides & weiner roasts made for great parties. Even though he is older I still get into Halloween but miss the hay rides.

I think for this years parties, I'll be going as the Joker from the Dark Knight. I was the Joker a couple of years ago but it was from the old days. This one has a new look and a new persona, I'll enjoy it ;-)
