I was right there until it jumped .20 over night and hasn't really come back down even though oil continues to fall. I don't have a problem with oil companies making money but the jump over Thanksgiving was not justified.

Gas prices have always jumped during holidays.

Holiday is over, gas is still .16 higher then it was on Thanksgiving day. Oil is $5? a barrel cheaper.

In Henderson it was $1.49 on Thanksgiving day, I get up to head to Nashville Friday morning and it is $1.69. Was still $1.66 this morning.

That jump has not happened in Lexington or Northern Kentucky. I am not sure about anywhere else.

It's GWB's fault. He's bitter now that he has lost the election and he is single-handedly causing prices to increase utilitizing his presidential "gas price increasing" powers.

It happened in Evansville (IN) and as far as I could tell Madisonville and Hopkinsville. I couldn't say whether it did in Nashville as I don't know what their prices have been like and I forgot to ask my brother inlaw.

Wholesale gasoline was near a $1.00 at that time and is now back up trading between $1.15 and $1.06 today. I have posted this before, but retail gasoline usually sells for approximately $.60 greater than wholesale (excise taxes + retailer profit make up that amount).

Haven't seen an increase here. It's been consistently around $1.61, maybe getting up to near $1.70, but I don't ever remember it being that high. Highest I remember is $1.66, and that's not any thing to make a fuss over in my mind.

Yes but this is also the reason which alot of us argued was the reason for high gas prices over the past couple of years. Said that China and Russia's booming economy meant a larger demand, and that the weakening US dollar also meant a higher cost for Americans. All to which a large number blamed Bush and the US government. Glad to see you came around, or CNN did, which ever the case may be.

I agree that supply (from OPEC) and demand are what determine the gas prices. It is NOT the evil gas companies. When I said "thank" Big Oil, I was obviously being sarcastic. They deserve no credit or blame for normal business practices.

The bottom line is the days of record profits are over for oil companies. Period. When oil does push up to 100 dollars again in the next 12-18 months, there cost to get it is going to go way up. They benefited the last few years but that won't continue. If oil is being sold on the market at 100 bucks its gonna cost them around 80 to extract it in the near future. Nobody ever said demand (well not me) wasn't an issue. The issue was they were making 100 million and spending 10 million on new project productions. Not to that exact dollar amount but you get the point.

 

The Obama admin will do everything they can to keep oil low by pushing conservation but we need a real solution, it is clearly not oil. I expect Barack to make a speech sometime in 2009 saying how we will "be off foreign oil 10 years from today."

Most Americans want to get off oil, but realize it won't happen over night. Are you in disagreement with this?
