I think Fairview is an improved team from last year but IMO Raceland is just too much for the Eagles this year. I think Raceland has a tremendous coaching staff and they will have the Raceland players knowing Fairview's offense inside and out by friday. IMO, Raceland coaches do the best job in the area of scouting opposing teams and on top of that, Fairview tends to be very predictable in their offensive scheme. The Rams are gonna have to come ready to play but like Cerebral Assassin said, I dont think Raceland needs any extra motivation for this one. Every offense is predictable, I can tell you right now Raceland is going to hand it to Carver and Denton. Just like Fairview will tell you they are going to run Shelton and Jones. I agree you have to have playmakers in order to have a great football team but a great coach can take an average team and make them outstanding over time. IMO Raceland has those type of coaches and at this point, I dont think Fairview does. And as far the predictability of Fairview's offense. Yea, obviously Raceland has two good backs in Denton and Carver and they are going to get them the football but its how they get them the football that makes Raceland's offense difficult to defend. Raceland is anything but predictable, they came out in the wishbone against Ashland, ran some power I, some wing T, and some spread and then did the same against East. Coach Hoof does a great job of avoiding tendancies such as always running the ball to the wide side of the field, or always running the ball on first and second down (not saying Fairview does those things, just giving examples of some tendancies high school coaches often have). Getting the ball to your playmakers and being predictable are two completely different things.

Completely disagree with you but thats what this forum is all about. Raceland is very predictable just like most high school teams, don't have enough time not to be in certain offenses. I certainly cannot speak for RamCat and am not trying to but I have a couple of comments on your post.

I think that Fairview is very well coached, as far as great coaches only time will tell that but the coaches at Fairview are VERY good now and imo have that progam heading back in the right direction. I think that "great coaches" are judged that way over a long period on of time, Coach McPeek may very well be on his way to being considered a great coach. That is not a cut on him at all, McPeek is a very good coache and Fairview is lucky to have him. I just think that it takes more than one season (3 games into one season) to be considered great.

You also said that Raceland was preditable, I disagree to some extent in that Raceland can do well in the spread/passing attack and running game out of the spread and the conventional running sets like the wishbone, power I and wing T. So, in that way they can come at you in a variety of sets/ways and be sucsessful in all of them depending on what will go against the defense they are facing the best.

Its not that I think Fairview has bad coaches, but IMO they have not proven anything in this area or in their own district so far. They have a solid coaching staff but IMO they are not on the same level as Ashland, Russell, or Raceland's staff. You cant argue with statistics and Mcglone and Vanderhoof both have the district titles (not sure how many McGlone has total but Hoof has around 6 or 7 since he has been at Raceland) and in Mcglones case, state titles, to prove that they are very good high school coaches. McPeek may reach that level one day and I hope he does, but he's certaintly not there right now.

I think that IF, Raceland comes out and plays with a "pitbull" mentality like they did friday night, they should win against Fairview. I just think the overall talent level for Raceland is there and I think that will help in an intense rival game. Do I think it's going to be a blow out.......I doubt it. Good luck Rams.

As far as the coaching staff comparisons go, I'd say if anything Fairview's is just unproven. Raceland has good coaches, not great, but good. Now if Raceland has a great season next year when they will be way down, then I might upgrade them to great imo.

 

Mcpeek has put in the spread wing-t, imo, the best HS offense. By far the hardest to stop. However, I think Raceland has ALOT more talent to put on the field Friday night, and I will be surprised if this game is within 28pts.

I look for Raceland to roll. Yes Fairview has a good team, but not the caliber of Raceland. These two teams will play again in the district. Fairview would have been down this year if it wasnt for the transfers. The score from Nicholas Co. would have been different if the Mynear kid doesnt go down at the end of the first quarter. After Nicholas lost him they werent the same team. I wish both good luck they have fine football teams and have good coaching staffs.
