It's rare a "summer" film like Dark Knight had the impact it did, especially with the buzz surrounding Heath's performance. It's also fairly rare that a film released early in the year gets any kind of serious attention. But I would say it happens frequently, you get a film re-released in small numbers to remind possible Oscar voters. I saw it in the theatre once, it was a good movie, I didn't think it was the end all, be all like everyone else. But that isn't a suprise. :lol:

I remember Wonder Boys was re-released around Oscar time in 2000 because it tanked months earlier. They thought that the movie was Oscar worthy and might get some interest from voters and fans on re-release. Didn't work... By the way, if you haven't seen it, Wonder Boys is a great movie. Highly recommended!!!
