Alright, not making this a race issue in any way but just wondering what some of your takes on it were? Should comic book hero's remain the same race in the comics and in the movie?

 

In my opinion I think Will Smith would do great as Captain America BUT I think if he was white in the comics then it should stay the same in the movie. It takes away from the comic book and character if you changed it.

I'm not saying it as a discrimination issue but as a sense of staying true to the comic.

 

An example would be like the article said, would you consider having a Indian Incredible Hulk, or a Korean Spider-man? Or what about a Hispanic Bat-man? I just think they should stick to the comics when it's something with the character itself.

I really don't care but I think this would really upset the die-hard fans. Those people complain about actors hair colors for years so I can't imagine what they would do about this.

I can see both sides of it. On one hand you want the best actor out there hands down, no matter who it is.

 

On the other hand you stay true to the comic book and the character appearance.

 

It's a touchy subject and it'll be interesting what happens.

I'm not a huge comic book fan so . . . my opinion will probably be from the majority of the population.

 

I can't think of a single movie/show etc that Will Smith has been in that hasn't been a HUGE box office hit. I think he'd be GREAT!! Besides . . . with all the changes is our society, I don't know that there would be that many people up in arms about a change like this.

 

I judge people by their actions, beliefs, motivations and accomplishments . . . not the color of their skin.

 

Since there's really not an appropriate response in the poll, I guess I'll just state my opinion here and leave the voting to others.

I consider myself a big Will Smith fan, but I do see where some diehard comic fans would be upset, simply because he's white in the comics. It's not that they're racist (though some may be, who knows?), but it's just not what he is. Kind of like how Baxter Stockman was black in the TMNT comics, but they made him white in the cartoon show (it's a little more justifiable to bring Will Smith in for CA than it is for them to change a race from one form of animation to another... that's just disturbing).

If he can play Artemus Gordon then CA should be no problem.....

Will Smith already has done this before as James West in the Wild, Wild West movie. I still liked it.

(I know it is a tv series and not a comic book) I had no problems with it.

I was having trouble trying to come up with the words for it myself. It is most definitely a race issue... but being that it's about keeping an adaptation true to it's source, it's a very trivial, tangible race issue that can be discussed in an open forum, IMO.

Anything but.....I don't care what color skin someone has, I think if the comic book has a character a certain way then the character in the movie should be the same.

At first I thought you meant Greates American Hero, if that were the case, I would vote he shouldn't be the lead. Unless he grows a blonde fro.
