September 8, 200818 yr Whether you agree or not, this is a powerful message... I hope this hasn't already been posted.
September 8, 200818 yr Wow! Thank you for posting this, TTL. I can only hope Obama has seen it and hope the message sinks in for him. It's young men like this that make me so very proud of this country and of our fine service men and women.
September 8, 200818 yr Thanks so much for posting this TTT, what a great message and the last part really hits home (or should) on what kind of men we have fighting for our freedom and where their hearts are. I just hope that our military votes are not "lost" in this election.
September 8, 200818 yr You know something I've never understood. Year in and year out, the absentee ballots from the military personnel stationed overseas come streaming in, and the overwhelming majority vote in favor of the Republican candidate. People here at home say they "love the soldiers" "listen to the soldiers," etc. etc., but then they go right on voting for the people the soldiers don't vote for. Why is that?
September 8, 200818 yr I didn't realize absentee ballots from overseas didn't count until the last election. We voted absentee ballot while in Europe.
September 8, 200818 yr I know of three active military personnel that are voting for Obama. Two are serving in Iraq and one has returned from Afghanistan.
September 9, 200818 yr You know something I've never understood. Just because we "love" and "listen" to the soldiers, does that mean we automatically should fall in line with everything they say? I love/like/listen to many people that I disagree with.
September 9, 200818 yr Just because we "love" and "listen" to the soldiers, does that mean we automatically should fall in line with everything they say? I love/like/listen to many people that I disagree with. But when 75% of the soldiers are telling you that Obama's message is offensive, does that not speak to you? If so, what does it say? They're brainwashed? They don't know what's good for them? They just don't understand? Or is it that you just don't care?
September 9, 200818 yr But when 75% of the soldiers are telling you that Obama's message is offensive, does that not speak to you? If so, what does it say? They're brainwashed? They don't know what's good for them? They just don't understand? Or is it that you just don't care? No, no. I just meant that we can't necessarily base all of our voting choices on what is being said by soldiers overseas. There are many more issues that a president will be dealing with besides the war in Iraq. If you like Obama's (or any candidate's) views on 9 issues, but disagree with the 10th (which is the war), does that negate the nine you favor?
September 9, 200818 yr But when 75% of the soldiers are telling you that Obama's message is offensive, does that not speak to you? If so, what does it say? They're brainwashed? They don't know what's good for them? They just don't understand? Or is it that you just don't care? So the other 25% (by the way, where did you get those stats?) are brainwashed? Don't know what's good for them? Just don't understand? Or is it that you just don't care?
September 9, 200818 yr So the other 25% (by the way, where did you get those stats?) are brainwashed? Don't know what's good for them? Just don't understand? Or is it that you just don't care? I don't have stats. However, I speak with very solid confidence that there is a 4-1 margin in votes by military personnel for Republicans. Maybe some fine link artists like cch5432 or Habib can find supporting documentation. You totally avoided my questions, but I will answer yours first. When 3/4 of a military unit holds to a position, I side with the majority on what the general consensus is.

When 3/4 of a military unit holds to a position, I side with the majority on what the general consensus is. I'll answer yours. I am not a one dimensional voter. I can no more vote in agreement with a military "unit" then I can with the NEA (even though I am a teacher). I look at a variety of issues and have to weight them against each other to vote for the candidate that supports me best, concerning the issues that I feel are most important. If I have vote with one group or person, I would choose my father...a Vietnam vet who will is voting for Obama. I don't know why a majority of military personel vote Republican...unless they are indeed republicans. Do these men and women go in as 50% R and 50% D, then change to Rep? If not, then why is this even an issue? I find it a litte audacious that the undertone of this is "if you support our national security, you'll vote with our soldiers, which means that you will vote Republican." I am so tired of all of that "true American" crap.
