I don't have stats. However, I speak with very solid confidence that there is a 4-1 margin in votes by military personnel for Republicans. Maybe some fine link artists like cch5432 or Habib can find supporting documentation.

 

You totally avoided my questions, but I will answer yours first. When 3/4 of a military unit holds to a position, I side with the majority on what the general consensus is.

I'll answer yours. I am not a one dimensional voter. I can no more vote in agreement with a military "unit" then I can with the NEA (even though I am a teacher). I look at a variety of issues and have to weight them against each other to vote for the candidate that supports me best, concerning the issues that I feel are most important. If I have vote with one group or person, I would choose my father...a Vietnam vet who will is voting for Obama.

 

I don't know why a majority of military personel vote Republican...unless they are indeed republicans. Do these men and women go in as 50% R and 50% D, then change to Rep? If not, then why is this even an issue?

 

I find it a litte audacious that the undertone of this is "if you support our national security, you'll vote with our soldiers, which means that you will vote Republican." I am so tired of all of that "true American" crap.

 

The guy in this video told you, and thousands upon thousands of others will too, that Obama's attitude toward the war diminishes their effort, no matter how much he goes around telling them he supports them but is against the war. But if, as you say, the military action/foreign policy issue is #1 to you in terms of issues, you have got to ask yourself, 'Why do all these soldiers keep voting Republican year after year after year?' Do only "Republicans going in" serve in the military? Are they changing votes after they get there? These are the guys in the know, not NBC/CNN/Fox, not bloggers, not guys in suits sitting in Washington. Get your information from them.

And we have some vets on here that have indicated that they are voting for Obama. I won't mention them, as I respect their (and anyone elses) right to not put themselves in the political mix with us.

 

I know of one (and have heard interviews with others) serving in Afghanistan that feel that our divergence in Iraq has affected our mission there. I have long supported the war in Iraq while likewise being against the reason we went to war in Iraq. Isn't Bin Laden where our true fight is? We might be "winning the war" in Iraq, but has it actually cost us a victory against our real enemy?

 

And honestly...back to my original question. If what you say is right, why don't ALL active military vote republican?

There are MANY reasons people join the military.. unsure of future, service to country, college $, career potential etc, etc. I have a feeling "bloodthirsty" is very low on the list, even as a "general rule" as you say. Your statement is a bit of a slap in the face to our men and women in the military imo.

This video makes me want to stand up and shout. I don't care what your politics are, if you choose to ignore what men like this say, you are showing no respect for our military. This "Volunteer Army" is willing to lay down their lives so we can have discussions like this. Give them what they want.

Or should we ALL acknowledge that what they are laying down their lives for is my right to dissent without being punished? My right to vote for whomever I wish? My right to be for gays in the military? My right to NOT vote if I choose?

Presuming that I am the brainiac (I'm also devilishly good-looking) of which you speak, I did not say that we should vote for the favorite of the military, I just want to know why the military at least seems to vote overwhlmingly Republican, and why, when it comes to affairs of war their opinions don't seem to bear as much impact. Its a perfectly legitimate query.

I phrased what I wanted to say wrong. Should we just automatically vote for every candidate the enlisted personel in our armed forces endorses? NO. Should we give their wishes as much as, or more, consideration than any other single issue? Absolutely.
