Now I know this is highly unlikely to happen, but with as awful as the Big East has been thus far, what happens if none of the schools reach 6 wins? I understand WVU, USF, and UC will almost certainly get there, but what happens if no one reaches 6? Does a team still get a BCS bid?

I would hope not, Could you picture a 1 loss Florida playing a 6 win Cincy team?

They conference winner would have to finish 4-3 in conference play (and likely win some type of tiebreaker), while only winning two non-conference games.

 

According to the rules of the BCS, the conference winner of the Big East is guaranteed a berth in a BCS bowl. You can bet they would be the last team chosen, however.

 

For what it's worth, something sort of similar happened a few years ago when Pittsburgh won the Big East with an 8-3 record. I know it isn't the same, but it definitely shows that "less than stellar" teams can certainly crash the BCS party.

IMO the BCS should do away with the automatic tie-ins... The Big East and ACC this year are proof enough...

^ It's a ebb and flow thing....how about the Big East the last three years, before this one, they were very good, and they also are 3-0 in their last 3 BCS games...not too shabby.

Until we lose a BCS game I don't know that you can claim the Big East doesn't deserve its slot.

Conference champs get in to bowl games. I am pretty sure some below .500 teams have made it before in smaller conferences. Seems like North Texas or a team like that got in once below .500.

That makes sense. Kind of like the NCAA b-ball tournament. I think at large teams (not sure) must be at or above .500 but conference champs can have any record as long as they win their tournament.

I don't know if that could or would happen but if it were to happen......no bowl game for any of them, give it to a deserving non BCS school or maybe another team out of one of the power BCS conferences. After that, consider revoking the Big East automatic BCS bid (j/k on that one, but this season that may be legit ).

 

Also, I know that is is off topic and for another thread but I am not very much in favor of a 6 win team (any 6 win team anywhere) making a bowl game. I don't think that mediocrity (.500 season) really deseves a bowl game.

So this year we'll give OSU's BCS bid to a more deserving school, seeing how they've been waxed their last two BCS games, right? At least the BEast wins their BCS games when they play in them.

I guess that I could see if a conference had ties to a bowl and that conference champ had a .500 or below record then they could go. I don't like it but I can see where they would.

Just checked and it was North Texas. They went in to the 2001 New Orleans Bowl with a 5-6 record.
