September 8, 200818 yr I have to say, though I disagred initially with Sarah Palin as a choice, it really has energized the party. Shows you what I know (absolutely nothing).
September 8, 200818 yr Author I was unsure at first also. However, my entire circle of family, friends, acquaintences kept raving about the pick and how much they loved it. Clearly "everyman" Americans, love the choice.
September 8, 200818 yr Even CNN is saying for the first time McCain has a lead (albeit only a point) in their poll of polls....The momentum is shifting and I love it!
September 8, 200818 yr WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are dead even in two public opinion polls released on Monday as they head into the final eight weeks of the race for the White House. The polls were taken Friday through Sunday after last week's Republican convention, which ended on Thursday. A CNN/Time poll showed the race deadlocked at 48 percent, and a Hotline/Diageo poll put the two candidates even at 44 percent. The CNN/Time poll was largely unchanged from the previous week, when Obama led McCain by 49 percent to 48 percent. The Hotline poll showed a significant convention bounce for McCain, who trailed Obama by 9 percentage points in a poll taken the week before. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080908/pl_nm/usa_politics_poll_dc
September 8, 200818 yr Dukakis had a 10-point lead over GHW Bush following their convention. I'm curious to see how the polls swing come debate time.
September 8, 200818 yr Following the Palin speech last Wednesday: If there's not at least a 10 point bump out of this, I'll be stunned. I'll put the mortgage on the under. Don't do that Bro. I might have you over for dinner, but I'm not ready for you to move in just yet... Not trying to rub it in on Habib, and certainly no crow involved. I'm just pointing out the movement that I saw as inevitable following her speech. Now, we'll see if McCain/Palin can keep things rolling. :thumb:

September 8, 200818 yr So, you have any plans for Habibs house? Nah... I was too soft. I couldn't justify kicking a brother out on the street, when I knew I was sitting on a sure thing. I never took him up on it. I can guarantee you he'll make me eat crow if I'm wrong in November though. Some people have no gratitude...
September 8, 200818 yr Dukakis had a 10-point lead over GHW Bush following their convention. I'm curious to see how the polls swing come debate time. That should decide it. McCain doesn't have to win the debates, he just can't get trounced. If he can keep the debates relatively even, I think he'll win. If Obama can school him, it will be really interesting. And, that's possible, because Obama is certainly a better and more charismatic speaker...that can carry a lot more weight than it probably should.

If he has to think on the spot, Obama won't win the debates. He has looked awful when he doesn't know what's coming.

Simply put, most of America is not political junkies. All they saw was a few things: a Pro-Life woman who the media attacked and seems down-to-earth. To be honest, and maybe it is a bad thing, that energized a lot of people.

The race was a deadlock before either convention and it is a deadlock now.
September 8, 200818 yr If he has to think on the spot, Obama won't win the debates. He has looked awful when he doesn't know what's coming. We could probably say the same about McCain! The debates will be important, but they might be painfully dull. Obama will "um" us to death, while McCain will trot out the old anti-terror lines that are his last resort. I'm not sure we'll hear anything new...unless they've got some stuff hidden back!:sssh:
September 8, 200818 yr Can't see either one having much of a lead the rest of the way out. Important thing is the electoral vote, which I haven't seen in a while.
