September 7, 200818 yr "I am going to get this off my chest. I am sick to my stomach that our fans in Commonwealth Stadium would boo Mike Hartline when he came out to start the second half. There is no place for that in our stadium. Those two young men are both inexperienced quarterbacks and they are both going to play as we move forward, we need them both. We will put the players on the field to win games, but we don't need booing our own players in Commonwealth Stadium, that just makes me sick to my stomach." --- Rich Brooks, postgame quote. September 7, 200818 yr I was there, And couldn't believe how the people around me acted. I was there as well and most of the people around me told the ones booing to shut up!
September 7, 200818 yr This is not that big of a deal. UK fans (including myself) have raised their expectations and get emotional. Although I agree it was wrong and didnt do it myself I think if you pay for a ticket and the K-Fund then its up to you if you boo or not.
September 7, 200818 yr I posted this in the UK game thread and I will repeat it here. I have season tix up in Sec. 206 row 35. There were little to NO boos up in that area. Seriously. I THINK (not sure but it seemed pretty obvious) that MOST of the boos came from the upper and lower student sections. I GUESS I can forgive them easier. When i was 19, I might have done the same thing. UK fans need to do better. The program really is on the rise.
September 7, 200818 yr I agree with him. There is no reason to boo Hartline. He was the winning quarterback against Louisville, and brought the Governors Cup back to Lexington again. They are both young and they both do different things well. Hartline didnt deserve that.
September 7, 200818 yr That's what I expected from Rich. He's dead on. It is Rich's fault. I saw an offence that was not moving for over 4 quarters. Then we score on 3 possessions. Why take him out? Brooks should have pre-warned us that he was going to play both of them. All we want as fans is to win. I think that Hartline will get better, but we need to score points. If this happened in basketball the fans at Rupp Arena would have been just as upset!
September 7, 200818 yr I agree that they were probably booing the decision and if they pay all that $, they can yell what they want.

Since when does a coach have to run his game plan by the fans? Oh...and your comment about basketball....while UK football is on the rise, I don't think the unrealistic expectations applied to the basketball program are warranted yet for football.

Brooks should have pre-warned us that he was going to play both of them. ! Pre-warned. LOL I wouldn't want the coach telling every secret they have to the media and the coaches have said for weeks that Cobb would be getting the ball in one way or another, take that as you want it. It is not the coached job to make fans happy about personnel decisions. All the coaches want to do is score points also. I cannot believe he was boo'ed either. Pathetic. Hartline ZERO TO's, COBB 2 TO's.

September 7, 200818 yr I am a BIG UK fan and liked Cobb's style. I want him to be QB just from last night because he throws and runs and makes things happen. I can understand a surprised collective groan if the game was tight and Cobb was taken out. But we had a big lead and as I said in the other thread; Hartline is a kid, or at least a young man. Sure, it's no crime but it shows a lack of class. And don't think for a second other performers on the field will wonder if they will be the next one humiliated by replacing or being replaced. I just don't think you should boo your own players.
