The game got started late because of problems with the field. Game was 38-0 at halftime. JV played the entire second half.

Just can't understand the thinking of Cooper principal to play a schedule like this. They are terribly overmatched. Giving a great effort and had a couple brief positive moments during the first half, but they simply don't need to be playing a 6A schedule their first year out. Nor is there much to be gained by Ryle, Conner, and the other schools that play Cooper that will have their JV in the game after halftime.

The Ryle-New Cath game next week should be very entertaining.

I'd argue they don't need to play a varsity schedule.

Ryle/NC will be a strong game. I'd tell the corners for Ryle to be on their toes with Kues.

I understand that Cooper was way out of their league. That said, is Ryle a legit contender this season?

Contender at what level? State? No.

NKY 6A? Yes by playoff time.

From what I understand that if they did not play a varsity schedule, for all sports, then all students would have had a choice to stay at their current high school.

Could they not have scheduled varsity games against schools like Walton-Verona, Bishop Brossart, Newport, smaller county schools, etc.. so that at least they'd have had a reasonable chance of competing? I feel bad for their kids - it's going to be a very long, frustrating season to get hammered week in and week out, all due to the fact that they were matched up against opponents they simply aren't (yet) ready to play.

I think they are a legit playoff team but a state contender might be a reach. A lot of youth on the team. Ryle has a soph QB, a freshman back in some formations, and youth all over both sides of the ball.

They are pretty solid on the defensive side of the ball, coach Woolf is one of the better ones around. If there offensive can build reps and become one unit.. they could make some noise. If there offense would have been a lil more in sync, they would have made things a lot more interesting in Ft. Thomas last weekend.

Cooper has some good size and young talent. They also have good numbers for a NKY school. They simply lack experience. As long as Coach Borchers keeps them focused and keeps the kids coming out, it shouldnt take more than a couple of years to win some football games. Good luck Cooper.

Thank You Woody... The rest of you need to sit back and admire the hard work of these brave and courageous young men. They lay their hearts on the line every day to fight an up hill battle. Don't write them off so easily. This year will be rough, but the tide will turn very quickly in their favor. Hard work is always rewarded. It may not be of any help now but there is a talented group (12 or more) of eighth graders in the Boone County Pee Wee system that are all going to Cooper. If this years Freshman team is any good it may only take a short amount of time to compete.

I believe the Birds defense might have had a little to do with that out of sync offense.

Congrats to Cooper on scoring their first points. I'm glad to see that Ryle did not run up the score. Good luck to all of the young men at Cooper.
