UC Run Offense vs Oklahoma Run Defense If you look at most of the successful spread offenses in football the running game is a driving factor in the production of the passing game. Brian Kelly understands that and has been emphasizing a more potent ground attack in 2008. Jacob Ramsey didn't get off to the start many wanted to see, and he was overshadowed in the season opener by John Goebel and Scott Johnson. No matter who gets the carries, all three backs are going to face a tough challenge in an imposing Sooner front four. DE Austin English and DT Gerald McCoy excel in getting in to the backfield and disrupting their opponents. The key to success for the Cats is holding their own at the line of scrimmage, and allowing the backs to get to the second level against a fairly inexperienced Oklahoma back seven. Easier said than done. Edge: Oklahoma UC Pass Offense vs Oklahoma Pass Defense If the Bearcats are going to pull off the upset, it will have to be on the back of their passing game against the previously mentioned Sooner back seven. Replacing 5 of your 7 starters from a season ago is never easy, and to make things tougher returning LB Ryan Reynolds moved to a new position on the outside. The Sooners passing D gave up over 225 yards a game last year, and if UC can gain early momentum in the air it will help to open up the ground game as well. The biggest test will be to protect Dustin Grutza so he has time to find the open man. If RT Sam Griffin has to start once again look for Oklahoma to bring a lot of pressure to his side, and if he doesn't hold up it could be a long afternoon. Look for Domonic Goodman, Mardy Gilyard and Marcus Barnett to test a green set of corners on short and intermediate routes early and often. The quicker the Cats can get the ball into Grutza's hands and from there to a WR, the better the chances are UC can hang around. Edge: Cincinnati

September 4, 200818 yr I'd love to see UC pull the upset. However, I would have to venture that they will keep it close through most of the game, and end up losing by 17 points.
September 4, 200818 yr Oklahoma by 10. Shame this game isn't being played at Nippert, as the home-field advantage might throw this game into the tossup category.
