I agree. However, getting noticed may require attending a camp or two. From that point on if the player is good enough, IMO they'll be found.

The scouts may attend moregames in Louisville but I feel pretty confident that they also know who the kid in southeast Kentucky is as well. Tim Couch is a good example...

If you are a parent sending film, 99% of the the time that film is going in the garbage. Let your coach sell your son, thats his job. If he does'nt their are ways to go. Every kid is not going to play college football, but their are a lot more chances than 20 years ago. Every parent loves his or her kid, but talent is talent an to play on the college level is a special thing.

I disagree. I know of a Kid in 06 that was 2nd team all-state. Got ZERO offers in D1 or 2. A very few in III.

That is not the high school coach's job and I was told as much. That's just not the way it works in our area. If you have a high school coach who is taking the time to "sell your son" then you are in a great situation.

 

If we get a letter and Recruiting Questionnaire in the mail and they ask us to return it with a highlight video, I don't think it will wind up in the garbage.

 

In fact, before we had the highlight video together, schools would ask US for the highlight video, not the coach

Then he wasn't good enough. All State honors esp in KY are voted on by the local media. Doesn't mean that they have College Potential or talent.

Look at Small Frankfort. They found E.J fields.

That is a good example, or maybe not....Look at what he had to accomplish to get noticed and he was a skill player.

 

I'm sure there are many big lineman in the mountains that never received any major city press and were just passed over.

 

Just to be honest if I was a scout, I would stay near the bigger schools were you could get a good look at more than a few D-1 prospects in the same game compared to maybe 1 or 2 at a smaller school. Then calculate maybe 2+ hour drive from Lex. one way.

 

Considering all that do you still feel those young men are getting a fair shake?

If you are a superstar they will find you... otherwise get films out to coaches!!!

I think if you are a D-1 prospect they will find you. If you aren't then you need guidance (camps, videos, combines etc). It has definatly gotten a lot better!

My son was a 4 year starter for a D 1 school. He would not have been noticed without a lot of work on my part sending out films and stats to schools and then following up with phone calls to those who expressed interest. The coaches help some but don't count on them alone. He played for a played for a 2 A school and did not get much exposure.

Have to remember all D1-A players are All-State players in thier H.S. state. Many good players get over looked by colleges.

 

You have to market yourself. If it's that important to you or your kid, why leave it in the hands of others, after all if you are not doing the marketing for your kid, why will others??? H.S coaches get paid to win H.S. games not to send players to the next level!!

FYI. Scouts are college coaches on a bye week. One bye week a year (roughly), and oh yeah they have other things to do as a coach, like prepare for the next game.

 

I think there is a common misconception that colleges have scouts on payroll and all they do it scout. The scouts are coaches. That's why colleges have the senior camps in the summer, so 100's can vist them instead of traveling 100's of times.

 

If you are a junior now, start making plans in Jan or Feb of 09 to make your rounds to these senior camps in the summer of 09. Look at senior camps at the college website of your school you want to visit, then call or e-mail the coaches of your posistion to introduce yourself or kid so that they might , might keep an eye out for them. (All phone numbers and e-mails of coaches are on the football web-site or University's web-site. Trust me on this, they are there, dig and find!!!!!
