I agree. However, getting noticed may require attending a camp or two. From that point on if the player is good enough, IMO they'll be found. The scouts may attend moregames in Louisville but I feel pretty confident that they also know who the kid in southeast Kentucky is as well. Tim Couch is a good example...

Well said Thundering Ox!!!:thumb: I had the privilege of attending the Danville game last season. If my memory serves me correctly GRC turned the ball over in the red zone 1 or 2 times (one of the turnovers occurred on the goal line?) and they also had a failed 2 point conversion. Can the turnovers be blamed on the coaches? After the game I believe the Danville coaches felt like they were lucky to escape with a win. I've already commented on the talent pool and feeder system of Clark County in a previous post. The coaches and athletes at GRC NEED and DESERVE support from their fans. Good post Varsity Card. An Offensive Coordinator would seem to be a reasonable change that could have a positive impact on the team. I have only seen a few of GRC's games and IMO the play calling at times was puzzling. However, the Coordinator will only be as good as the players on the field. Sean Salisbury of ESPN has a great quote about the importance of having good players to match good coaching, "It's not the X's and O's that make the difference it's the Jimmy's and Joe's." Is Gillespie hurt?.... While size is nice to have, I'm not certain that it should be the determining factor. There are alot of 'smaller' athletes that thrive in athletics. What they lack in size they make up for in heart and desire. As a coach I think that I'd rather have 'smaller' players with heart and desire than the bigger player that "look like Tarzan but play like Jane." Actually, I would prefer to have a roster full of bigger athletes that had size, heart, and desire!!

I think your on to something ProppaStyle. From what I know the two middle schools play in the Bluegrass Middle School Conference. Clark County middle school teams play what have to be considered "weaker" (no disrespect intended) schools (Bourbon, Estill, Powell etc) in their conference. Granted, they have excelled in their division but are not as dominant when they play teams in the other division. IMO playing these schools may give the impression that the talent level is better than what it is. Don't get me wrong there ARE plenty of talented players on this football team!!:thumb: But it is tough to compete with the Tates Creeks, Henry Clays, Madison Centrals and Scott Counties year in and year out. Also, I am with you... wins would be nice but, win or lose I have to respect any coaches and kids who are working their tails off to represent their school!!

It seems that you are predicting the demise of Clark County football. Clark County is just a couple of years removed from a nice playoff run. Also, the pool of talent just is not what it has been in the past. There are also some talented players that could help the team but (for whatever reason) will not put forth the effort to participate in the footbal program. Unfortunately, this seems to be a problem in many schools across the state. With regards to the QB situation. Having 3 sophomores competing for that position can't be bad. I've heard that the junior (Menchen) was the front runner at the start of the summer and because of his work ethic may work his way back to #1. Time will tell.

Here is what I have heard... Gillespie has been a little banged up and because of that others have taken his reps with the offense. A decent player with some experience at the varsity level. Creteau has suffered an injury to his arm and his season may be in jeopardy. Menchen was a front runner until he missed several two-a-day practices. Good attitude and is a workout warrior who had great attendance in the off season workout program, attended 2 QB camps this summer, has a good arm and is capable of managing the game. Dini is taking the majority of snaps with the 1st team offense. He is tall and a good athlete with decent speed. He seems to be progressing nicely, gets better and more confident with every practice. His throwing is also improving. Barnes and Skinner are both also getting snaps with the offense. Skinner is a good athlete with good speed and a good arm. Barnes is a tough kid who has decent speed and decent arm. I heard that he attended the QB camp at the University of Florida this summer. Both are good athletes that may be more valuable to the team at other positions. This is just what I have heard.

I believe that seniors Justin Gillespie and Josh Craft will be competing for the starting QB job. Juniors Evan Menchen and Ryan Creteau might also be in the mix. Don't know much about any of them. I've heard that the Menchen kid is workout warrior and has attended a couple of QB camps:thumb:
