Problem is, the administration of the Georgia Football League, the association for private-school teams in the state, said the 14-year-old freshman can't play because she's a girl, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

If she is only kicking the chances are slim that she will get hurt. She should be allowed to take the risk along with all the other players. What about small boys or weak, slow ones should they all be cut? It sounds like she is in a small school that probably didn't cut anyone else. That said, I wouldn't let my daughter do it but this is America and people should have that choice. What about Title IX?

I'm pretty sure Title IX doesn't exactly come into play in this situation. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but Title IX is more about equal numbers between women and men's sports not letting a girl play football.

If she attends every practice and does all that is required in the classroom she deserves the chance to be on the team.

I was going to use a comparison between Boys and Girls Basketball, but won't due to the fact that it's the same sport and is offered to both men and women.

 

Someone earlier compared this to discrimination.

 

What if a guy wasn't quite good enough to play baseball for his high school team. What if that same guy was awesome at softball ? Should we allow him to compete on the woman's softball team ? If this were not allowed would it be considered discrimination ?

Just my opinion - if she can kick a football and can earn spot on the team I have no problem.

Title IX says if a comparable sport is not offered in boys or girls then they may try-out for the boys or girls squad. That would eliminate a guy getting cut in either basketball or baseball and playing girls basketball or softball and vice versa. There are no girls football teams. Therefore, a girl may try-out for the football team. The state of GA is setting themselves up for a law suit and if I were a lawyer I'd gladly represent this young lady. If she is good enough or if they have a no-cut policy then she should play.

The school that she attends is a private school are if I'm not mistaken, private schools don't have to follow Title IX. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

 

As far as this case goes, I don't think she should've been cut but then again, why would you want to play for someone who doesn't want you? If she is as talented as they are saying she is, I'd try to go to a Georgia High School Association school in the area and play for them. Maybe that way her talents would be appreciated.

Exactly. This shouldn't even be a story. She should not be allowed to play football. Period.
