St. Xavier 63 Ballard 0

CoachJ is Ballard's head coach, and he is a very good one.

I'll second that. I know Oldham County sure misses him with the way things have been lately but Coach Brown has them back on the right track.

How did Gray get hurt, a hit or his kicking motion? Spears didn't see it happen, they just saw him on the sidelines. I hate to see that happen cause he looks to have a great future kicking the ball. Sounds like his replacement does too!

They said Riggs is a soccer player. Does he kick soccer style, or use a normal kicking motion?

I believe Wyatt got hurt punting the ball, he wasn't hit. I do believe Riggs is a soccer style kicker. In pregame he looked as if he might have a little stronger leg than Wyatt.

CoachJ, I must say one of the best posts I have ever seen on this board. I wish you and your team success in the future. I am sure it will come just judging from the way you stated your approach.

Im sitting next to my cousins who are from Pikeville (where Coachj used to coach if anyone didnt know) and they know him just as good if not better than people at ballard, and say he IS a good coach, as everyone is saying, and that he wouldn't tollerate parents influence on a game. so no one needs to worry about that. Over all a very solid performance for the tigers, and it sounded like ballard was just very disorganized. and yes does anyone have a picture of X's new uniforms?

The balanced depth of this 2008 Tiger T-E-A-M is an amazing thing to behold! Players keep rotating in and out on offense, defense, and special teams like a crowd coming through a revolving door.....and they never miss a beat. LEAVE NO DOUBT! :ylsuper: :scared: :ylsuper:

I think 5 sophomores played in this game. Defense was flying around the entire game, QB play was much improved from last season. I really liked the intensity this team played with!

That's a lot for this early in the year. Five is about all that play normally, do you think there will be more, or are these the chosen few?

Hey Park, thanks for the reply to my questions above! I didn't get a chance to go Friday night.

I thought the game would have been closer, as well. I do wish Ballard the best with their new coach. As for X, Ballards offense or defense wasn't that much of a measuring stick to gauge X's true ability. Should be interesting in about a month.

Roc4ever: Normally I would agree, that a team losing 63-0 puts it in the grouping such as Butler last year as the measuring stick. But Ballard will be good and they have skill positions and good size along the line. But X showed something in their first 3 TD's that is different than years past- speed at WR and the ability to catch it. Goodwin and Sweeney basically blew past the Ballard DB's and out jumped them for the ball. That doesn't bode well for those that try the smaller faster DB's against the Tigers. I think that Ballard focused on covering the tight end deep and X went outside deep. Matt Brutscher showed nice touch on the deep balls that will open up the running lanes with DBs not thinking run support first.

Another thing to consider-I saw no illegal substitution penalties with the mass switches going on every play. Pretty impressive for the first game.

The Tigers looked as sharp as I have ever seen for an opener. They really had that look that they could be special this year.

Yes and no. The only games they have to play are district games, which for St. Xavier is Butler, Manual and PRP. For Trinity its Ballard, Eastern and Seneca. They obviously play each other so that's a fourth game. They could both conceivably play up to six opponents from Indiana/Ohio/Tennessee, etc.

And each of those states are on a different calendar than Kentucky when it comes to scheduling games. Moeller had to agree to move their game with Cincy St. X so the Bombers could make the return trip here this year. Ky two year cycle for contarcts doesn't match well. Indiana schools only have a 9 week regular season. It's not as easy as it appears.

Looks like it will be Trinity and St. X in the final this year.

Semi-finals.:cool:If all goes well.

Now Now, X had speed at WR last year, but maybe it was the delivery method. Yes, Ballard does have some skilled palyers, but not enough for Friday night. I didn't comment of the substitutions for X, but that tell me that X's coaching staff worked hard in the off season. :thumb:

I honestly can't see a semi-final match up not happening because there is just not much competition in 6A football this season.

I appreciate the personal compliment, but it's not deserved after a shellacking and I'm not sure where the rest of this post is coming from...

PARENTS at Ballard had zero to do with the preparation, the play-calling, and the effort (or lack thereof) on our parts during the game.

I have been VERY clear with the parents and others here that there will be ZERO influence by 'outsiders' as to who plays, how much they play, how much they get the ball, etc. Further, they've been told that attempts to influence me to do so may actually HURT their son's chances to do all those things. TRUST built by 1) practice effort and 2) grading of game-film determine playing time and where the ball goes on game-day.

As the head coach, I don't need the administration's help in this area.

We were out-disciplined, out-hustled, and out-coached in every part of the game. Simple as that. No blame can be placed anywhere but on the coaches and players playing in the game...not the administration, not the parents. Those IN THE ARENA must assume PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for what happened on the field without making excuses or placing the blame anywhere else...then they must CORRECT their own problems or be replaced.

One day in the future, Ballard will be competitive with disciplined teams. But not until a litany of bad-habits change and the coaching improves (starting with the head coach).

Coach J Could you expound on the litany of bad habits that must be replaced...sounds as if you are pounding the previous staff, as if things were in turmoil...would you be so kind as to explain that, because Coach Catlett would never never pound any Coach and/or staff going out...one of the reasons he is out is his naiveteness.
