Top 10 Players in the 9th

Featured Replies

It is such a shame that they have four players on their roster that are mentioned as top players in the region but yet can't even advance to the regional tournament. (Earls, McFarland, Gabbard and Popp)

How can you not win a district tournament game with this type of talent?

I think you have to add Cody Collins (Newport) in the mix as a top player in the 9th this coming season. Collins has grown a few more inches and pick some solid muscle weight. In addition I believe that with him playing football this year has helped him a lot. He was always aggressive and now I believe that will increase more.

Now as juniors is the time for the 2010 class to start stepping up.

Do you feel that the current coaching staff is capable of putting them in a position to be successful beyond the month of January?

Who is Cody Collins, what year is he, and what position?

Based on the late season results of the last few years, I don't know. I hope so. I feel this year and next will be Boone's best chance to make noise in the 9th for awhile.

I dont understand how Kowolonek, who didn't even play varsity hardly last year, could be listed as top ten in the region. I don't doubt that he could be a great player, but let's at least let him prove something first. I would say the same goes for Trimpe. He basically did nothing last year at the varsity level, and I'm not saying it's his fault but there's no way he's in the top ten. As for Bryan, He is undoubtedly in the top ten. You can say all you want about playing a small school schedule, but you can't discount the type of season Villa had last year. They have not been able to do that before despite several "talented" players. He is definitely a special player, and if he was at another school he would start except for Holmes... and he'd probably be better playing for a team that could take some pressure off of him.

Kowolonek started most of the varsity season last year. He was Highlands third best player behind two of the regions top players (Simpson and McGraw).

Kowolonek had a fantastic summer with the Shining Star Sports-McFarland team. He is a big time player.

Kowolonek is one of the top players in the ninth region.

What are you smoking? Kowolonek beat CovCath over at their place on a last second shot. He started the entire season at the 3 spot and averaged double figures. He also was near the top in rebounding. I think you need to follow the Birds and Kowolonek a little more before you make posts like this.

Kowolonek is an oustanding player, he leaps well and sees the floor very well. Playing behind McGraw and Simpson probably allowed him to do more but it also hampered his touches IMO. This season he will be the go-to guy and you will see him avg 18pts and 10bounds a game.

Wow I dont follow the 9th region but I thought McFarland was definately a top 5. Is he not as good as I thought or is everyone is bias or just wrong.

Cody Collins is a junior and usually plays a strong forward position.

He would not start over Gabbard and Popp at Boone either. He is not top 10 in NKY yet IMO. I've seen several of the 2010 guards and players in this class play head to head this summer in AAU ball.

Kowolonek is one of the top players in NKY. Dunno if he is top 10 but he is top 20 for sure. He is a terrific rebounder, has a great nose for the ball. I think he played quite a bit last year and played well against Holmes in addition to several other teams.

Steven McFarland is a top five player in this region. He is going away to play at Georgetown College and will have a very nice college career.

Steven is being mis-used at Boone County. He has not been allowed to be a top player in the region. Hopefully this year he will be allowed to lead Boone County and let them compete at a higher level.

Not allowed? What position should he be playing?

Steven played point guard as a freshman and logged minutes at the varsity level and started JV at the point. He has good ball skills and an amazing ability to pass the basketball. Steven played the 4 last year and was stuck in the lane in the offenses that Boone ran.

Steven's strength is not scoring with his back to the basket, although he is an above average rebounder. He needs to be able to step to the perimeter and create opportunities for himself and his team.

Steven needs to be playing the 3 and have the ball in his hands more often.
