Steven played point guard as a freshman and logged minutes at the varsity level and started JV at the point. He has good ball skills and an amazing ability to pass the basketball. Steven played the 4 last year and was stuck in the lane in the offenses that Boone ran.

 

Steven's strength is not scoring with his back to the basket, although he is an above average rebounder. He needs to be able to step to the perimeter and create opportunities for himself and his team.

 

Steven needs to be playing the 3 and have the ball in his hands more often.

 

He played the 4 spot for his AAU team this summer also. I think he is a good slasher but his outside jumper needs a little polishing. That being said I believe he is easily a Top 10 player.

He played some 4 with his AAU team because he was playing with some great guards. At times he was playing with Russ Middleton, Vee Sanford and Cam Clemons. He had to play the four in that lineup.

 

Boone doesn't have that type of talent to push him to the four.

 

Boone played three guards last year and shot a ton of three's. That got them eliminated in the first round of the district tournament for the third straight year.

 

Steven McFarland is the best player on the team. He has very good talent surrounding him. They have four top players with Gabbard, Popp, McFarland and Earls.

Cody Collins is a junior and usually plays a strong forward position.

 

There is no way he is a top player.. He might not even be top 5 on his own team. Especially as a junior it would be very tough to consider him in the top 10...

What are you smoking? Kowolonek beat CovCath over at their place on a last second shot. He started the entire season at the 3 spot and averaged double figures. He also was near the top in rebounding. I think you need to follow the Birds and Kowolonek a little more before you make posts like this.

 

Kowolonek is an oustanding player, he leaps well and sees the floor very well. Playing behind McGraw and Simpson probably allowed him to do more but it also hampered his touches IMO. This season he will be the go-to guy and you will see him avg 18pts and 10bounds a game.

 

Lol... Wow just a little biased? I didn't mean to offend you. I'm sorry the games I watched of Highlands last year I didn't remember seeing him start. Particularly the NewCath game at the beginning of the year, and the Regional game at Conner. Now I could be wrong, and if so I'm sorry, but he didn't stand out to me at all as a top ten player. I have no doubt that he may be a very fine player. All I was saying is that I didn't think as of now he had proved himself as a top ten player.... I'm very sorry again for ruffling your feathers.

I think they do. They just don't have a preseason defensive player of the year.

Out of everyone on the list I think Pittman has the most upside, but I think that's a pretty good list as well. I probably wouldn't put Speed on there either though. Good player... love his hustle... but not top ten.

I tend to agree with you. I'd have Gabbard or Popp at the #10 spot over Speed.

 

I wouldn't move JJ down though. If you compare him to the players below him, he certainly is a much more athletic player and has more D1 potential than those. You have to remember he was relied on last year to defend..not score. Different story this year.

 

Something to be noted...Housley is ranked the 6th best player in nky, but won't even start for Holmes.

Housley is not a top 10 player. He is not a team player at all and Holmes will find that out and he won't even come in as a 6th man. He and his mom are all about him.

I believe last years defensive player of the year was Arrez Henderson. He did more than just defend. I haven't seen the kid play, although I saw Newport play 3 or 4 times last season, but maybe he is a great defender.
