Sad for the kid that so-called adults have stepped in and messed up once again when claiming they are there to help.

This is a real shame. If he is that dominant, it will only make the batters he faces better to be challenged by him.

 

I saw a pitcher a few years ago in minor league fastpitch softball who was very dominant. By the end of the year, the batters were starting to catch up. When they picked the all stars, they ended up winning the state that year.

The statement that sticks out to me:

Job well done guys. Just like all these types of situations the kid feels to blame.

 

It is possible that moving him up is a solution, but it seems completely unreasonable that if they don't elect to do that that they would be forced to not play in his age class. No different from children that are smart enough to skip a grade but sometimes the parents don't to not separate them from the kids they know and have grown up with. Same deal with the advanced class example UKPat gave. Typically you're given the option of moving into an advanced class, but in no way are you forced as these league officials were trying.

40 mph is absolutely nothing special for 9U. In fact, it's flat out average. My younger brother's 10U this year had 2 pitchers that hit upper 50's (I held the gun when one hit 60 mph on one pitch) mph and several others that regularly hit low-to-mid-50's (now granted, they are a very competitive, select team). If any of you have a radar gun, go throw a 40 mph pitch and you'll be stunned how slow it is and how much of an arc will be on it. No one would get hurt from being hit with a pitch this speed.

He can't move up within little league and be eligible for an all star team. He can move up for league play, but not for all stars.

 

Little league should pull their charter until they can get some folks with a brain to run the league. This is ridiculous.

I saw this story this morning on the Mike and Mike show and thought that it was absolutely pathetic. This society today that says all should win, don't keep score, everyone gets a hit ..yada,yada,yada is going to ruin youth sports. I can agree with these points in T-Ball but you know everyone in any form or aspect of life is going to run into someone a little better than they are, everyone is not going to win all the time. I can remember when there were try outs for little league teams and guess what? Not everyone made the team and that was o.k. too, everyone amazingly survied. Life is full of dissapointmets and kids deal with them much better than the adults. So, little Johnny may strike out....he will get over it just fine, it is mommy and daddy have to grow up and deal with it.

 

I would think that this kid would be able to "play up" if he and his parents wanted him to. That does not mean that he should if he doesn't want to. What if he may not be as advanced in hitting, fielding and other aspects of the game? Then moving up hurts him.

 

After coaching and umpiring youth sports and this age group in the past....I have always said that all the kids want to do is play ball and all the parents want to do is fight, argue and whine about it.

Why don't they move him up to a division where kids can actually hit off of him. Heck, bring him to Ft. Thomas, I'm sure Sticky will find a spot for him.

 

They started to put him up with the Reds but he was embarrassing too many hitters.

:thumb:My son and another kid on his 10U team regularly hit upper 50s this summer. Our catcher even broke his thumb this spring catching those two! In fact, my son hit 63 once, it was a wild pitch, but that is beside the fact!:lol: I'm not bragging on my own-we have seen kids throw quite harder than my kid on several occasions. This whole thing has debacle written all over it!

Adults will be the downfall of youth sports in the country. In many ways, they already are.
