Brohm's preseason

Featured Replies

I am hearing the Pack will bring in a veteran to be the back up as Brohm has struggled in the preseason. This shouldn't get him down, he is a rookie, and I think he will be fine long term but on a different team.

I haven't had a chance to see him play much... any Trinity fans have any insight?

He didn't have a very good preseason at all...

He's a system quarterback and they rarely produce at the NFL level.

Not arguing with you but why do these NFL teams continue to draft these system guys if they consistently fail?

He's actually not a system QB, but if want to stretch that way, GB's system closely matches, what his best assets are, which are alot of crossing routes, play action, and screens.

I think a bad "preseason" performance is no reason to right him off or call him a failure. The fact that they may bring in veteran to be the number two is not a bad thing. How many QB's play in their first year, and end up being successful in the NFL? Not many.

Brohm may not ever be a good NFL QB, not many are. But to right him off this early is a little premature.

I don't think anyone is saying he is a bust or anything. It's just you usually don't hear Brohm and not doing well, in the same sentence. Just wanted to see what was going on. I hope he doesn't play this year and learns. Carson waited a year, Rodgers has waited what 3? Couch was thrown to the wolves, and looks like Ryan will be as well.

It is odd, I agree. I think it shows how difficult the NFL is.

He is a rookie, and it showed big time. His arm strength has looked bad too.

If he is going to have success it's going to be with another team. He could fit in well at Kansas City or Chicago.

I believe that for this season the least he plays...the better. Another veteran behind Rodgers may not be a bad thing. Brohm imo needs to learn from a veteran QB, learn the pro game and not be thrown to the wolves too soon.

Brohm is in a tough spot. He's playing behind Rodgers who is still young and is in Green Bay's plan for the long haul. If Rodgers succeeds this year then it might be in Brohm's best interest to end up somewhere else. Either way last preseason he was being touted by most UL fans as the #1 pick in the 2008 draft, obviously his talents were overestimated. His current status has to be a bit of a disappointment but hopefully he can develop into a 10 year player whether as a starter or backup.

I don't know if all of your statements are fair. He is a rookie. Peyton had a bad rookie year didn't he? Brohm was a second round pick not a first, let's keep that in mind. He shouldn't be expected to be a savior type QB for a team, but someone who is expected to perform in this league at some point.

I can certainly see some of your points Joe. I think that he was overrated coming out of college as well. That statement is in no way saying that he will not make it in the NFL, I really hope that he does. Just a lot was expected of him right away by some imo.

I'm not talking about his draft position. As a 2nd round draft pick I wouldn't expect him to start right away--especially for a playoff team. However, there were numerous UL fans that were touting Brohm as the number one pick in the draft before the 2007 season. I think we can safely assume that they drastically overrated his worth. As for Peyton, he did start the entire year. He also set the record for touchdown passes as a rookie, he also passed for 3700 yards (another rookie record)and made the NFL All-Rookie Team. Was that a bad year--especially for a moribund franchise like the Colts? Perhaps your memory is fuzzy.
