College programs that produce NFL players

Featured Replies

My son and I was talking about this and I told him someone in BGP land will know. The question is, "what are the top 10 college programs in terms of producing NFL players all-time"? We made some good(and expectable) guesses but Im guessing that there will be some surprises. So, what does everyone think?

I would say tO$U is at the top with USC right behind them. Mich is probably in the top 5. Penn St used to. UGA is a good one.

My 10 best guesses:

USC

OSU

Miami

Michigan

Texas

Oklahoma

Penn State

Florida State

Notre Dame

Nebraska

The NFL always looks at the SEC first, but I know USC and Miami produce pro pllayers every year.

LSU has been noted for producing alot of NFL defensive players (especially on the DL and Safety)

Georgia produces alot of DE's, WR's, and LB's.

That is not true. The top 5 as of last year were in order:

1. Miami

2. O$U

3. GA

4. Mich and Tenn with the same amount.

My statement is true, NFL scouts always go to the the SEC first!

Notre Dame has produced the largest number of players to go on to play in the National Football League of any program in the country. As of the 2007 NFL draft, 459 players have been drafted. - According to Wikpedia

A little different slant on the topic but found this info breaking down projected NFL starters by conference.

When you break it all down, the SEC leads the way with 137 projected starters for the 2008 NFL season. The ACC finished second with 121 projected starters.

The Big Ten finished third with 105 starters and the Big 12 was fourth with 72 projected starters.

The Pac-10 finished with 70 starters, the Big East has 33 starters and Conference USA and the Mountain West each have 22 starters.

The WAC has 21 projected starters and the Mid-American has 19 starters. The Independents have 13 projected starters and the Sun Belt has 12 starters.

There are 57 players from the small college ranks that are projected starters in the NFL for 2008.

Despite all the coaching changes and realignment in different conferences in the past, especially the ACC, the SEC stands atop of the college football mountain when it comes to sending players to the NFL and becoming starters in the league.

No you are wrong. This is the list of current NFL players not all time. I may go out on a limb here but scouts really do not care what conference you are from it is how well you perform on the field and at the combines. According to the current NFL The ACC, Big Ten and Big 12 produce just as many NFL players. ( I left Fla. St off my previous list as I believe they were ahead of Mich, Tenn and maybe Ga.)

Yeah of all time, thats not fair because they've been around alot longer.

That would be incorrect.

While ND may be an older program, they started in the late 1800s, similar to most other traditional powers or other schools that began in that time frame (late 1800s - early 1900s). Even then, the NFL did not exist and the draft did not really get going for some time... by then the majority of schools today were all competing.

Wow I forgot about Miami.

I'd say ND, OSU, Michigan, Miami, Fla. State, Oklahoma, Texas, and USC are at the top.

Des anyone have a legit count on this? I would be curious to see that list.
