Lets say that a car manufacturer puts such a device in a car. A parent forgets, the device fails and a child still dies. Would the manufacturer be responsible for the childs death? I would be willing to bet that if that scenario happened, the parents would sue the auto manufacturer. Would any car manufacturer want that kind of responsibility? Should they have to take it on? I dont think so.

Now, that would be a great idea. I was also thinking that there must be a way to rig it to where that and seat belt alarms not to be disabled...if they are, maybe the car would not start. HMMMM, now there is an idea.

No...IMO, it should still be the fault of the parent. But, you have a point. People are so willing to sue over anything that there would probably be some suing going on there.

I think they should. They put air bags in cars, and those are certainly capable of failure. The key to making it happen is to make the equation profitable for the automaker.

What do you want? She is already dead inside, wouldnt you think? Anybody that makes a mistake that costs them their child's life is sentenced to a life of anguish and misery. So what, you lock her up so she doesnt do it again?

 

On a side note, for all of you people who enjoy this sort of morbid stuff you can listen to the mom's 911 call on http://www.gocincy.com. I for one just want to forget about this whole thing and hope someone develops something that will prevent it from happening again.

 

 

I, along with some other people on here, realize that she is upset and her life will never be the same, however, there has to be some kind of punishment for this type of thing. A lot of times, nothing happens. I am not without a heart...infact, PH and others that know me very well, say that my biggest flaw is my big heart. I am really sorry, but, my heart goes out to this child and other children who do not have parents that know that they are around.

That was sickening. I hope that shock made her voice that flat, but I wonder. I pray that I never come across one of my children dead, but I can say with absolute certainty that I wouldn't sound like that.

I know...I was going to post that, but, I thought I would get quoted and made to feel I am the bad person. She sounds like she knew it and it was no big deal.

Isn't that the truth...I don't know if I would be able to make the call...I would be out there with her and someone else would have to call....then, eventhogh she was dead, she still left her out in the van to make the call....I would not be able to leave her...I just know I would not be able to. I know that we don't know what we would do unless in that situation, but, I do know myself that much.

I really don't understand how this keeps happening? Stress or not, how are you unaware that you have passengers in your vehicle? If you're that pre-occupied, maybe you have no business even driving a car.

 

Absolutely sf, there is NO excuse for this at anytime, anywhere. I can't even imagine being so "stressed" as some call it that you forget a child (your child) is in the car. Any reason that anyone gives for this kind of thing to me would be a pathetic and inexcusable one :irked:.

 

Also, I love the idea that S3 and others were talking over earlier, this seems like it would be very easy for the car manufacturers to come up with and if any lawmaker anywhere would not try to get this kind of thing passed then imo that person should not be in office. Same for a car manufacturer that would not put it on a vehicle.

 

 

11 month old baby, we all know now that this baby is in the arms of the Lord and is being loved and taken care of for eternity. R.I.P. little one:cry:.

I cannot judge this Mom. What a horrible thing to happen. I did hear the 911 call today listening to the news at noon. I don't know why she sounded so calm. I couldn't see her. Maybe she was in total shock. We all react differently. I really think it would be a great idea for car companies to put in a sensor in vehicles so when there is weight in a seat (front or back) the alarm goes off. I know when a passenger in a Toyota removes their seatbelt even coasting to a stop (in a drop off zone at 3 miles an hour) a sensor goes off.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this young soul and all those that loved her. It is always a tragedy when a child's life ends . . . no matter the cause.:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
