Cleveland and Detroit, were both expected to do much better.

 

I voted for Detroit, but you couldn't go wrong voting for either of those teams. I don't think anyone would have picked the Twins or White Sox. Twins especially because of what they lost and the White Sox coming off a godawful year, a year older and relying on two very young pitchers in their rotation.

 

Of course you could make a solid case for the Yankees as well. I'm not surprised the Rockies took a step back. I know they have some great young talent, but it took a miracle run and a miracle collapse to get in the playoffs. Yes, you give Colorado credit, but they were a ho-hum team until that run late. They have returned to ho-hum form this year, it was a great story, but no surprise they came back to earth or returned to form this year.

My N.Y. Yankees, They still have an outside shot at the WC but that imo is not likely. The Yankees judge their sucsess by Championships whether it be division, AL or WS. Anything less is a bad season..."if your not in first pLace.....you lost".

Detroit,a preseason pick to make the World Series,now won't make the playoffs,very disappointed.

They're still in contention but not playing well currently. The early exit of the Indians and where the Tigers are at, gives them a nod with me.

I vote the Braves...Chipper, Teixeira, McCann, Escobar, and Francouer was supposed to provide a slugging offense.

 

Glavine, Hampton, Hudson and Smoltz were supposed to be healthy and ready to compete.

 

A bullpen that was supposed to be a little more seasoned and ready to hold a lead was all set to go..

 

So far Chipper is the only one holding up to his end of the deal.

 

Smoltz, Hudson and Glavine done for the year. Smoltz's career may be over, Hudson done till after the all-star break next year.

 

Teixeira was traded.

 

Soriano was hurt most of the year and never found a groove in the bullpen, Gonzalez has provided steady relief but it was too late.

 

Jurrjens was the real surprise for the Braves this season pitching quite well for the Braves.

Hampton ... healthy? Yeah, right. Smoltz has been an injury risk ever since he returned to the rotation. Glavine is 42, for goodness sake. Soriano also has a long history of arm problems.

 

Maybe your expectations were a little high.

I almost picked the Yanks but upon reflection, I remember thinking in the spring that their pitching was suspect and it has proved to be what I thought it would be. So actually the Yanks have outperformed where I thought they would be this year.

 

Detroit and Cleveland, enough said.....

 

Reds, while I didn't expect Bench, Rose and Morgan to come walking in the door. I did expect the Reds to play much better than they have.

Padres were expected to challenge in a weak division and now they are of the race in a weak division. I thought Young, Wolf, and Maddux would have given Peavy more help in the rotation, and Hoffman showed his age quick. Lineup was expected to be better also.

Play better yes, but realistically how much better could they have been.

 

It's frustrating for all the local Reds fans to watch but add another 10-12 wins and they're probably near the win total, we expected.

I didn't think the Padres would be very good, but I surely didn't think they would be horrible.

So wrong....Considering most of ESPN had the Braves winning the world series I don't think my expectations were high at all....

 

Tex, McCann and Escobar did fantastic but Chipper surpassed them all and in the end the offense suffered quite a lot because the key hits were missing. It wasn't their fault but Chipper was the main guy on offense.

 

 

Ohhh I see, Smoltz was the kind of injury risk that pitched 200+ innings over the last 3 years and was the most consistent pitcher on the Braves staff.. I see...try again

 

 

Glavine may be 42 but if you can pitch you can pitch....Before this year he'd NEVER been on the DL..so no one had any reason to believe this year would be any different.

 

Soriano may have arm problems but he was considered healthy enough to go with no arm problems at the beginning of the season.

 

And Hampton had made a full recovery of his arm problems during this past offseason, the injuries he suffered over this year was with his groin, and hamstring...

 

 

So before you go off on my expectations try looking into what I'm saying before discarding it!
