CY Young Winners

Who's it going to be?

I'm going with Brandon Webb in the NL, and DiceK in the AL....

Since I don't follow the Red Sox, I had NO idea that Dice K is 15-2 on the year. You figure with the Indians having an awful year that Cliff Lee has no chance, so that leaves Dice K and K-Rod. We get to hear the debate about closers and Cy Young again.

Webb could end up winning 22 games and should win the vote going away in the National League.

To say Cliff Lee has no chance is a stretch. He just beat the Angles and the Baseball Tonight fella's said right now he is their Cy Young winner.

He will get votes and deservedly so, BUT it's the age old argument. Do you give the guy the award for a team essentially in last place.

It's supposed to go to the best pitcher regardless of record, but we often see it go to a guy on a team that's winning. It's not fair to Lee, but you take him off that team, how much worse could they get. You take Dice-K off the Red Sox and where would they be right now.

If the season ended today, Lee should win the award. More wins, better ERA, K's are about even per 9 innings, better WHIP. The fact that he's on a bad team should help his cause.

Lee

Webb

Yes you are right about being on a winning team. I think that is more true for a hitter, a pitcher can only go out there every five days.

With Boston running the risk of not making the playoffs, I wouldn't be so quick to rule out Lee's chances at the expense of Matsuzaka. On the other hand, if Boston makes it, or wins the division, and you can point to Matsuzaka's performance as the reason why, it works in his favor. He has the most control of his own chances to win the award.

Greatness of Maddux in his prime!

75-28, that is solid for a 4 season run.

The AL, is up for grabs right now. Webb will win the NL.

Brandon Webb in the NL

Dice K(Bosox) or Lee(Cleveland) in the AL.

Right now, it's Brandon Webb and Cliff Lee ...

I'm not sure that Matsuzaka hasn't even been the best pitcher for the Red Sox. Jon Lester has been just as valuable or more so, throwing a lot more innings and very effective.
