CY Young Winners

Right now, it's Brandon Webb and Cliff Lee ...

I'm not sure that Matsuzaka hasn't even been the best pitcher for the Red Sox. Jon Lester has been just as valuable or more so, throwing a lot more innings and very effective.

Dice K - 15-2, 109 K's, 2.77 ERA, 126.2 innings pitched

Lester - 12-4, 114 K's, 3.17 ERA, 167.2 innings pitched

I'll go with Dice K. Lester has been great, but not better than Matsuzaka.

Lester averages roughly 6 1/2 innings per start. Matsuzaka averages only about 5 1/2 per start ... 40 less innings is quite a difference for starting pitchers.

Lester has gone six innings or more in 18 of his 26 starts. Matsuzaka has only done it in half of his 22 outings.

And Lester has been healthy all year.

Greatness of Maddux in his prime!

Cueto and Volquez are close behind

If Sabathia doesn't lose an NL start, the race between he and Webb will be closer than some think.

I agree completely.:thumb:

Lester has been more effective. He has been healthy and goes father in games, which IMO is very important.

Cliff Lee and Brandon Webb, same as what would have been said in the first few weeks in of the season.

The Cy Young is voted a little differently than MVP. There have been Cy Young winners that are not on playoff teams.

With that said,

NL Webb

AL Lee

Cliff Lee SHOULD win the AL cy young... he has the best resume and is doing it on a team that is ravaged by injuries and under achieving.

Cliff Lee is 18-2 after today's win.

I'll take Cliff Lee & Brandon Webb.

It's supposed to go to the best pitcher regardless of record, but we often see it go to a guy on a team that's winning. It's not fair to Lee, but you take him off that team, how much worse could they get. You take Dice-K off the Red Sox and where would they be right now.

Decent logic, but I think you've got it backwards.

Lee should be rewarded for having such a great season on such a terrible team.

Without Cliff Lee, the Indians would be absolutely horrendous.

Without DiceK, the Red Sox would just sink $20 million into a different pitcher.

I didn't realize he was doing so well!

CC has 9 starts thus far in Milwaukee...His numbers:

W-8

L-0

ERA-1.80

CG-5

SHO-2

IP-73

BB-15

SO-69

If he goes 3-0 or 4-0 to end the year, and keeps his ERA close to where it is now, I say he gets it.

Lee has won about 36% of the Indians games. He has to pitch a extremely good game to get the win because he doesn't get very much run support. Any time that you have 2.5 ERA in a DH league you deserve to be the CY Young no matter how bad the rest of your team is. I'm sorry but Dice-K should not win the CY Young because he has way too many walks and pitches too few innings per start, but that is just my opinion.

Brandon Webb will win the awared because he will probably wind up with 3-4 wins than anyone else to go along with his sub 3 ERA. If it were not for the arm problems he had in June he would probably ahve the lowest ERA in the NL. CC has been great since coming over but he has too few starts, and I dont think you can totally discard how bad he was at the beginning in Cleveland, and I know thats it's a different league but still.
