Or, he can go to the Independent League, hit .200, and not get drafted until the 5th round or later next year, thus never seeing that $3mil he could've gotten this year, let alone a 7 figure contract. How often do these antics come back and bite the player in the rear?

Which is another possibility. However, the way he talks, school is practically his last option. It's a big risk to take by not signing now.

To me its inexcusable to draft a player knowing that he's going to ask for the moon especially when the has the leverage of another year of college.

Three 1b were takin with the first 11 picks in the 2008 draft. 3. Eric Hosmer, 1B, Royals

7. Yonder Alonso, 1B, Reds, and

11. Justin Smoak, 1B, Rangers.

I absolutely abhor the MLB Draft. For reasons such as this. I think if you declare you declare, like the NFL, no going back. The players and worse, the agents, have all the power in these things.

Posey is probably much closer to being major-league ready than Alonso. Given the state of the Giants, if Posey is signed he will probably be up with them by the middle of next season if he signs.

The Reds are in better position than the Giants, who are probably years from fielding a contending team. Other than Lincecum and Cain, there isn't much there to feel pretty good about, and there is no guarantee the Giants will be contenders by the time they are eligible for free agency.

 

No one of any consequence is blocking Posey, if he signs, and that isn't necessarily the case with Alonso, if he signs.

Yeah, but I know the kid deserves some of the blame for not understanding his place right now. Take a contract, prove yourself and you will get your money.

OR was this a good move by the Reds? From what I'm reading, they'll be compensated with another high pick next year to go along with what will assuredly be another Top 10 pick, giving them 2 Top 10 picks next year.
