Did anyone hear the coach's comments to the pole vaulter who won a silver medal? He gave a her dose of tough love on national television.

I wouldn't put this all on the Chinese. The U.S. had home plate collisions with the Chinese catcher (had to leave game) and and even more brutal one with his back up. A total of 7 batters were HBP and their were 3 ejections.

I didn't get to see the game, only the highlights. However the collisions I saw at the plate were of a catcher blocking the plate and a runner doing what he is taught to do, take him out and claiming the plate. It's part of the game.

 

The throw at the head could have been deadly and was unexcusable. Throw at his body, but not his head if you want to make a statement. It was planned from the beginning because the catcher set up right behind the batter, not even pretending to set up for just an inside pitch.

USA baseball clinched a birth into the medal round win a 4-2 win today. Their next game against Japan will determine seeds. If USA wins, they play Cuba. If they lose they play Korea.

USA women's volleyball defeated Italy this afternoon in the quarter finals. Great game to watch!

That's the way I saw it. I didn't see anything malicious until the ball was thrown at the batter's head. If they wanted to prove a point, then hit him in the back or the rear end. Don't throw at someone's head.

As you can see, in the events where medals are determined by competitors rather than judges, the gold medal gap between China and the U.S. is greatly narrowed, and the total medal count is an American runaway. Counting the judged events, China has a commanding lead in golds. Hmmm... Nope, nothing fishy about that!

 

Look, I don't know much about gymnastics, but I do know that landing a vault on two feet is better than landing one on two knees. Olympic gymnastics judges evidently disagree with me, as they awarded China's Cheng Fei a bronze medal yesterday even after she fell on her vault landing. American Alicia Sacramone finished fourth despite, you know, not falling.

 

And today, 12-year old 16-year old Chinese gymnast He Kexin won gold over Nastia Liukin based on an obscure tiebreaking rule. The two received the same score from the judges, but He won a tiebreak because an Australian judge apparently was watching a different competition.

^ I am not happy about the vaulting situation. But you can't argue with the tiebreaker for the for the other. The rule states how to handle the situation. But, I will say that there never should have been a tie.

I have no problem with the actual rule, even though I think its pathetic. My problem is that Liukin was just better. I don't even know what to think about the vaulting deal, wow.
