August 19, 200818 yr I am an Adam Dunn fan, and wanted to see him stay in Cincinnati. With that said, I think trading him for the guys that the Reds got in return (if you include Micah Owings) was a great deal for Cincinnati. Particularly if they're willing to spend the money that they "saved" between Griffey & Dunn.

Forget where I read it but it was pointed out that the money "saved" by the Reds cannot really be spent anywhere else as several of the Reds will receive raises already built into their contracts over the winter.

I am not saying that the Reds were a complete team but rather that Dunn was a part of that puzzle and needed to add 2-3 pieces. If the Reds cannot afford the Dunn piece whomever it may be, than they cannot compete in a year in and year out fashion.

August 19, 200818 yr Here are the records for the Reds since 1990. Went to the playoffs in 1995, went down to the Wild Card play in game in 1999, finished 2nd in the division in 2000. Haven't finished any higher than 3rd since then. Since this is an Adam Dunn thread, I will make this post revelant by saying that the Diamondbacks start a series with the Padres tonight. :thumb:

I think I read that of the $25M or so saved that $15M of it will go to arbitration eligible players.

That's why I put saved in the quotation marks. "Saved" is relative. However, the budget is going to increase some and I hope they'll put the "extra" money to good use.

I too am a Dunn fan, I will say have also blasted him on here on more than one occasion, got mad and said trade him mostly about his play in the OF. I used the political season as a guide and did a flip/flop and wanted to keep him . I also realize that the Reds may have came out ahead on the deal, imo only time will tell.
