August 12, 200818 yr Who said either one was a bust? Neither had a chance of taking the job from Woodson. Fidler had shoulder surgery last fall and Hartline has the job now, or so we think. How is either been a bust? I'm not saying either is a bust. Let me clarify that I didn't intend to sound like either was a bust. My point was simply that you can't mention the #2 QB as being unworthy to receive a schlorship when you don't mention QB's 3 and 4 as being unworthy if they also have schlorships. August 12, 200818 yr UK just lost the backup QB and that's where they need him this year. There is absolutly no way a true frosh. is going to come in, learn the system and start in the SEC after only a couple of weeks. He will learn a few plays and play in certain situations that utilize his running ability and hopefully mop up in a few games that the Cats get a good lead. His future will be a WR. I may be wrong but didn't Stafford start as a true freshman?
August 12, 200818 yr I may be wrong but didn't Stafford start as a true freshman? Yes...I'm pretty sure he did start for the Dawgs as a true freshman. As far as the UK QB Situation...I think Hartline is capable and will be the starting qb when the Cats take the field at the Pizza Box. Cobb will get a few snaps via designed plays just for him under center, and will see some time at WR imo. He is too talented to stand on the sideline holding a clipboard 90% of the offensive plays.
August 13, 200818 yr I would think learning the QB position is much more difficult than wide reciever. Plus by learning the QB position he will know what all recievers are supposed to do, which should also help him at the reciever position. Sounds lke a great kid.
August 13, 200818 yr I may be wrong but didn't Stafford start as a true freshman? After a few games he did. Same for Mitch Mustain the same season. In fairness, Stafford and Mustain were the top 2 QB prospects in that class. Cobb is nowhere near that.
August 13, 200818 yr Stafford also played poorly his frosh season. See the UK victory sealed by his pick.

August 13, 200818 yr Didn't Ainge and Shaffer (sp) split starting jobs with each other their freshman year at UT? I may be wrong on this as well. I'm not comparing Cobb to these guys or saying they did great I'm just contradicting a statement that said "there is no way a true freshman can come in learn the system and start at QB in the SEC after a few weeks." Stafford, Mustian, etc. may have been highly rated and they may have not played great but they proved it can be done. That's all I'm saying.

Plus by learning the QB position he will know what all recievers are supposed to do, which should also help him at the reciever position. Sounds lke a great kid. Agree. Learning the QB positon could also help him become familiar with routes thus helping him learn the WR simulataneously. Also it would be good to have him ready at QB if Hartline gets injured or falls flat on his face in the opener.
August 13, 200818 yr Stafford also played poorly his frosh season. See the UK victory sealed by his pick. Yeah, he did play poorly his freshman season but look at the strides he made last year and look where UGA is picked this year. If a true freshman play bad his freshman year at QB it could still give him the confidence/ experience to come out and improve the next year. I say if all things are equal (not saying they are) go with the player with more potential and/or the player who has more years of eligibility remaining.
August 13, 200818 yr Can Will Fidler throw a spiral? I haven't seen him throw a decent looking ball yet. Of course, I guess the saying goes "it doesn't have to be pretty". His passes look like a bird shot out of a tree and hitting every limb on the way down.

August 14, 200818 yr Fidler has been a big disapointment... Hasn't Fidler battled some injuries? I remember when his Hendo team came to Cincy and played Moeller. Brutal.
August 14, 200818 yr If Cobb is an athlete like Pulley then it would be scary to think about him+ the backs UK has running a WVU style spread!
