Cobb vs Hartline

Featured Replies

Hartline will start against UofL...but would not be surprised to see Joker have a few plays designed for Cobb to come in and get some snaps to give the defense for the other teams something different to look at and to see what Cobb can do against a college defense. The young man sounds very promising...except for his height...I wish he was a little taller for QB. But then again Randle El at IU and Chris Leak at Florida were not the tallest QB's.

The bolded part has me extremely confused. If he is such a stud at WR and UK has a definite need at the WR position why would the coaches see him as being a starting QB this year?

I assume they see him as a great QB as well and they would rather have a great QB than great WR. Joker said that Cobb had the ability to start for UK at WR agaisnt U of L so Joker and Brooks must also see something from him at QB seeing as he is spending 90% of his time there.

I believe he may end up being a Randel El type player. I think that is a good comparison.

There has been a lot of talk lately about the Cobb kid having a true shot at being the starting QB this season for UK. What does this truly say about Hartline? Was he never going to have a shot at QB other than back up duty? What are the differences in Hartline and Cobb. If Cobb wins the starting job did the coaching staff waste a scholarship on Hartline?

I have heard no one say anything about Cobb having a shot at starting QB. Hartine has a solid hold on the job. Cobb may be used in short yardage situations. But he has no shot at starting period.

I believe that Brooks and Phillips told Cobb that they would give him a legit look at QB when he signed. However, I believe he was very open to playing anywhere they need him. He sounds like quite an athlete and should help the Cats somewhere on the field.

The other young WR's appear ready to contribute............which give UK the opportunity to give Cobb an extended look at QB...........which also gives UL something else to think about.

So if Cobb wins the job was Hartline a bust?

Didn't we offer a scholarship (sp) to Fidler as well? I would see him as more of a bust than Hartline. And no I'm not going to call Hartline a bust just yet.

Who said he wouldn't have a shot at starting?

I'd say he's got a shot at starting at QB. Why else would Joker and Rich take him away from a WR group where he would probably be the #2 WR on opening day?

Who said either one was a bust? Neither had a chance of taking the job from Woodson. Fidler had shoulder surgery last fall and Hartline has the job now, or so we think. How is either been a bust?

UK just lost the backup QB and that's where they need him this year. There is absolutly no way a true frosh. is going to come in, learn the system and start in the SEC after only a couple of weeks. He will learn a few plays and play in certain situations that utilize his running ability and hopefully mop up in a few games that the Cats get a good lead. His future will be a WR.

This is also my opinion.

How can we call young players who have yet to start a game (or play much for that matter) a bust? Simply amazing. Look at what Woodson became his jr and sr seasons after not so stellar performances as a frosh/soph. At least give these kids a chance to play first. My goodness.
