A good coaching staff, no matter what the sport should have the ability to conduct a well structured, and organized practice in 2 hours. There is only so much you can have high school kids do. With a new program it's about drawing kids to the field and having some fun. 2 hours is plenty of time to get a LOT of work done on an athletic field.

I know my son is in two a days right now and they are going from 7:00am-12:00pm & then 6:00pm-9:00pm

 

This sounds excessive to say the least. How do you and your son feel about this?

Per the BMustangs website, they have an "open practice/meet the team" night this Friday. Seems like a good opportunity for the fans to meet the staff (if they haven't already done so) and players, and talk a little football.

As in on the field at 7 AM and off at noon, meaning 5 hours on the field for 1 practice? I have been around football at a few different levels and never have I seen that done. Five hours on the field not only increases chance of injury but will create burnout for a lot of kids. And then to throw another 2 hour practice on after that? I honestly can't answer that, I'm sure you're probably close to what they are doing. I drop him off at 6:30am on my way to work & he is in bed when I get home from work. He plays for Highlands & it is his first year there, so I'm sure some of the Bird faithful could give you a better answer as to their schedule. I just know the time frame that they have to be there.

I can. No they are not on the field from 7-12. Not even close. Generally in the morning sessions they are off the field by 10. The last two hours are spent on films, weights and position group instruction. Evening session generally does not have them on the field at 6. I know on Tues night they didn't come out until after 7 (I think they were watching more film before they came out) and they were off before 9. Dale adjusts the on field time based on weather and needs that he thinks have to be addressed. But the boys do put in the time, for sure.

 

As to the topic of this thread, I think with a new program you have to walk before you run and the Brossart coach is bringing these kids along slowly but surely. Makes sense to me.

As far as I know, I never saw you play and didnt know your coach, so I cant comment on that. I just know about the experiences of our boys and what works for them.

I don't understand why? Nobody just goes to NCC. They go there because they want to wear the Blue and Gold like their brother, dad, cousins did. It will take a good 5 years of winning seasons from Brossart to maybe have any play on where kids go. The kids from St Joes and St Mary who want to win, have have a chance to win state every year, and not lose every game will still go to NewCath and follow in the footsteps of their friends and family. The "Hill" is a tradition. With that said, the kids who do go to BB to play football knowing they might get their butt kicked for a few years do get a lot of credit and respect from me for being willing to do that to try to make it a winning program. NewCath will not suffer anytime soon from the Mustangs having a football program. In fact everyone on the hill wishes them nothing but the best. Uncle Ron what do you think about that??

I think 2 hours is plenty. At a school the size of the Mustangs, I'd be trying every way possible just to get kids out and staying out. My max is 2.5 hrs, which I've rarely ever hit. I'd be worried about driving fence sitters away with excessive hours of practice. This isn't the NFL, the kids have lives beyond football, even if the coaches don't. I'm excited for Bossart.

Any updates on how practices are going? How do you think they will look at the scrimmage on Saturday?

Practices are going well the kids are not use to going through what they are now but they are adapting to it well.

Yes they do. Aug. 29 7pm at Newport High School.

Has Brossart made plans for a home field?

Yes there are plans for a home field not sure if the plans can be released so I will not say. If someone else wants to they can do so.
