The arguement against Mason at #4:

 

1. They were at best the 3rd best team behind Russell and Breathitt last season

 

2. They lost QB Richie Cox who was a major part of their offense, which aside from him struggled at times last season mightily.

 

3. Russell and Breathitt presumably have just as much skill returning as the Royals

Mason Co will be a good team, Coach B always has his players ready to play.

I hope our Devils use this as incentive throughout the season. Many times our team is rated lower in the pre-season than the collective talents of our players merit. These are just one person's opinion and the real test will be on the field. We lost seniors, but have many kids who are stepping-up to move into those vacancies. Just as any players,they will learn. Good luck to all in 3A.

I don't think that was a problem with the Belfry team or coaches, but I suspect you are dead on with regard to the Belfry fans. :thumb:

Russell very well may be much better this year if they can stay healthy.

 

Plus Russell always seems to be a tough win for Mason. I'm not sure of the overall record, but I'm certain it is weighted heavily in Russell's favor.

Anyone who had seen Central play against teams MUCH better than JC would have understood just how much Central really didn't want to be there. No offense to JC but close games against St.X, Manual AND Highlands were much more indicative of this team than the JC loss.

Isn't the whole idea of the pre-season rankings to try and predict how teams will finish? If not, then I don't understand the point of the pre-season rankings. If its not a list of the best teams and how they are gonna finish, then what kind of list is it?

Give us your top ten teams, right now, to reflect them at the end of the season taking into account players who will be getting injured, surprise underclassmen who develop as the season goes along, upsets that effect seeding due to inclement weather and muddy fields, and the ever favorite playoff matchups on the road against teams who styles are more suited for one school than another....

 

To truly do rankings before the season to reflect teams at the end of the year it would require taking into account all the variables above. Pre-season rankings, just like running rankings through the course of the year, reflect how good teams are presumes to be in the present, the final rankings indicates where the teams wound up.
