Not a good start to the 2008 season for three key cogs to Notre Dame's hopes. A web site has published photos that apparently depict Irish players Jimmy Clausen, James Aldridge and Brian Smith with another individual partaking in what the Web site calls the "Beer Olympics."

 

The pictures apparently are not dated, and they do not show the players in the act of consuming alcohol.

 

But there appears to be beer in cups. And no matter what date the pictures were taken, at least two players have yet to reach the legal age for drinking.

 

Clausen does not turn 21 until Sept. 21 of this year, while Smith does not turn 21 until 2010.

 

Aldridge turned 21 on July 6 of this year.

 

A Notre Dame football team spokesman was not immediately available for comment. But du Lac, the handbook that outlines Notre Dame's personal conduct policies, says that "Students may be subject to disciplinary action for underage consumption, possession or transportation of alcoholic beverages."

You know the NCAA and those pesky rules, not to mention public pressure against underage drinking and so forth. It shall be interesting to see if this goes anywhere.

I am willing to bet that if you looked at all D-1 College Football players under Age 21 on facebook or myspace you will probably find evidence that at least half have been underrage drinking.

 

I like seeing ND suffer as much as anyone but there is no reason these kids should be punished for being college students.

I graduated in 05' and I will not be 21 until September, so that is correct. I've noticed quite a bit that I am often around the same age as kids who graduated high school last year.

 

 

Pertaining to thread this isn't and shouldn't be a big deal at all. College kids drink when they get to college, theres no way of getting around it. As bad as I hate to admit it, it has never been a problem for me to obtain alcohol while in college, and to be honest I am almost burnt out on drinking before I am even 21. Truth of the matter is, especially with high profile college athletes, 70% will party underage, and who could really blame them when usually they will be the main attraction at the party. As long as it isn't affecting anything on the field it should not be a big deal at all, as many of us have witnessed first hand it is all just a part of the college experience.

Where can I get a sweet hat-jacket combo like the fellows from Notre Dame have on in the pic? I don't remember Rudy wearing that!

I really don't think this should be an issue and like someone said before, go to an underage college football players myspace or facebook and you will find pictures like that. Ha maybe with out the sweet jackets and hats though.

Which actually makes him younger than some think. This is a non-issue, should be handled internally, but since it is Notre Dame I am sure we will here more about this.

What a stretch. Maybe Coach Weis should also ban the players from dining at Applebee's. Unless I'm missing something, all of the players in the photo are either without cups or holding empty cups. Someone call CSI.

BTW there is a recent similar case. A UGA player was pictured either holding a keg or standing by a keg despite being underage. I don't recall what happened to him.

Probably nothing. UGA has much worse matters to deal with.

 

Several UGA players will miss season opener

 

 

Dewberry was at the hospital while teammates Donavon Baldwin and Marcus Dowtin were being treated for injuries suffered in a bar fight early Saturday morning.

 

Dewberry is the fifth Georgia player suspended from playing in the Aug. 30 opener against Georgia Southern. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 1 in the season's first USA Today Top 25 coaches' poll released Friday.

 

Junior long snapper Jeff Henson was suspended indefinitely Saturday morning after being arrested and charged with public intoxication and urinating in public. Henson was charged with a DUI last November and suspended one game, which he served during the Sugar Bowl.

 

Baldwin, a junior safety who was set to serve a one-game suspension after a DUI arrest in January, was also suspended indefinitely after the bar incident that resulted in his hospitalization.

 

The 236-pound Dewberry went to St. Mary's Hospital to check on Baldwin, and broke a barrier on a control arm at the parking lot -- with his hands, not his car -- and also broke four plant pots.
