August 7, 200818 yr You know the NCAA and those pesky rules, not to mention public pressure against underage drinking and so forth. It shall be interesting to see if this goes anywhere. It's not the NCAA rules I worry about, it the du Lac. They are many times harder than the NCAA. If they vote to kick you out of school, that's it, you're gone. You have to re-apply to get back in. They did that to Kyle McAlarney, who at the time was the best player on the BB team (before Harongody blew up), and their starting PG. People were shocked he was kicked out, me, not so much. However, that was a much more serious charge than this. The weird clothes are the unis, and the goofier the better is how it often goes. I was not a drinker, but I here this is standard fare in college these days. :lol: I hope Weis runs the crud out of them, just for posing for a pic. That's 17 Rivals "stars" of the football team there. Or if they get suspended, just for the 1st game.

Unless I'm missing something, all of the players in the photo are either without cups or holding empty cups. Someone call CSI. I think you're missing the pitcher full of beer in front of Claussen. So they're drinking at a party. Good for them. Nothing will come of this - or, nothing SHOULD come of this. Except maybe a few extra sprints at practice.

Half my fraternity at the University of Evansville was on the football team. They mostly all drank beer whether over 21 or otherwise. No big deal. If they start kicking guys off the teams for underage drinking, football will likely cease to exist.

I hope they enjoyed themselves and I think that the people who want to incriminate them from this picture and wreak havoc on their lives (and ND's football team) need something better to do. And I am far from a Notre Dame fan.
August 8, 200818 yr I see both sides. I am very anti alcohol for reasons important to me. I've been drunk maybe twice in 44 years. However, in high school and college, I always held a beer in my hands just to not look more like a freak than I probably was. Otherwise 100 people every night say "You're not drinking?!?" So I don't automatically assume they were drinking, since they were holding empty cups. It may have just been posing for the camera. On the other hand, I was at a friend of a friend's funeral years ago, who died in a wreck at age 18. I casually knew him. His mother was sobbing hysterically, saying things like "he was a good boy, he never drank or did drugs, he never had sex". Hearing her say that made me think "Wow. That's sad". He never experienced those things, even though some are bad, except the drugs part which no one needs to try. It didn't drive me to drink, but it made me think life is too short not to have ever drank too much, or been with a girl. So I see both points of view.

There was no proof Clausen or any of the other players were actually consuming alcohol. "First, I want to say that I don't condone underage drinking, but with that said, gimme a break and let's move on," Weis said.
