July 30, 200818 yr I know the one company is working on it.Let me know, be glad to help explain the ramifications, of this.
July 30, 200818 yr They didn't take her card. It was something similar, I think. IMO, it had to be someone from a restaurant or it was stolen online because they had the security code on the back, PLUS she still had the card. I can't 100% claim that an employee from Margarita's is responsible, but they did have a few employees arrested for confiscating CC #'s, and I dined there about a month prior.
July 30, 200818 yr Author Is the account Mrs GT uses still good to go??? Yes, her endless supply of cash was unharmed...
July 30, 200818 yr Yes, her endless supply of cash was unharmed... Good. We're buying a house next week, and we're going to need it. She'll be over this weekend... :walk:
July 30, 200818 yr This happens all the time (as everyone stated). Each time a charge is made it is a separate felony offense in the jurisdiction the charge was made in. In other words, if the charges are made in the US you could be stuck with calling a zillion different police departments to make a report.

July 30, 200818 yr That's where I am. Every single day looking to see what's going on. Just tried to call a company on the list the bank gave me, doesn't seem like they exist...:fight::fight: I check it everyday to keep my wife in check My wife's purse got swiped out of my car and the thief racked up like $850 in charges for electronics before they could cancel it. Like, he or she went immediately to Kmart and went shopping. The bank covers up to like $1000 and ours reimbursed us the money from what I recall. Funny thing is the purse and all its belongings was found on a snowbank in a Kroger Parking lot in Western Hills cincinnati. Someone found it and mailed it to us with everything intact excpt the Debit card.
July 30, 200818 yr It would be easier if I just found out who it was...:fire: Thats what italians do, find who it is and take care of it themselves. A little back room justice......:fight:
July 30, 200818 yr I don't own a debit card...still write checks. I did have over $500 on a credit card chared to me...it was over seas. Have no idea how they got my #'s. Credit card Co took care of it. Like stated above. A small purchase was made first then one over $500.
July 31, 200818 yr It would be easier if I just found out who it was...:fire: No, it would be easier to win the lottery.
July 31, 200818 yr Author It's frustrating because I only keep about $200K in that checking account. It's starting to dwindle and I'm almost broke... Nearly seven hours and nothing? I'm disappointed...
July 31, 200818 yr Someone stole my wife's debit card number. Thus far we've financed ring tones, cell phone minutes and accessories. They even had the security code on the back so they must've jacked it from somewhere online. They only hit us up for small charges but they made a bunch within a two day period. Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper. I've since canceled the card and may have to cancel that checking account. We've sent emails and made phone calls to the companies and they've been helpful, for the part. But, what a pain in the rear end... Has this happened to anyone else? Yes, my purse was stolen a couple of years ago. Before it was all over, I had bought several tanks of gas, a TV, DVD player, camcorder and other items from Wal-mart. Since they broke into my house while I was asleep, I didn't know any of this until I woke up. Needless to say, the Wal-mart was 24-hours. Anywho...it's taken me two years to fully recover, and the police were absoltuely no help. I was able to call the gas station where my card was used, and they agreed to share the survellience tapes with the police. I called the detective who was handling my case, and he never called the station. In fact, he's never even called me back. :irked: Which reminds me, I still owe TD for the $12 she loaned me so I could get my license replaced so I could close my bank account.

July 31, 200818 yr Visa does protect you when your idenity has been compromised. If you have contacted your bank they should have already filed an unauthorized purchase affiadavit to help you start the process of recovering your money. In most cases the bank will notice charges going through your debit card that would seem different in nature and either put a hold on the card or notify the cardholder. This is usually the case especially when purchases are made out of your normal living area. While it is not necessary to completely close the account, due to the fact that the is now deactivated, if you want to sleep easy at night I would advise to close the account and open a new account. This will stop any and all activity on the account. If you have auto-debits or direct deposits into your account those usually can be reset fairly quickly. Also, if the card has been de-activated but there are pending charges out there they will still hit your account. Sometimes it may take a few days to show on your account. If you have any questions feel free to IM, as you can tell have some experience in the area. Also, trying to find out who is using the card if out of the area is less than a 20% success rate of apprending that person.
