July 30, 200818 yr Author It's frustrating because I only keep about $200K in that checking account. It's starting to dwindle and I'm almost broke...
July 30, 200818 yr Doesn't a debit card with the Mastercard or Visa logo offer some of the same protections as a credit card? I'm not sure why you would have to close your checking account. The bank should be able to disassociate the card from the account and put a stop on any future purchases. The reason thieves go small at first is to see if the card has been reported stolen. Then they go for the big purchases. Yes it does. This happen to me about a month and half ago. My wife checks the account on line every day. She called me asking if I had made two purchases totalling around $800. I said no and called the bank. They asked if Visa had contacted me yet as the card had been put on hold. Apparently there was a third charge for $1500 that was declined due to insufficent funds. The card was put on hold and visa was alerted. We filed the paper work and the money was returned. Visa issued a new debit card. The funny thing is who ever did it was in Europe. One charge was to the British Red Cross for like $30 and the other charge was for $700+ to a company that makes generators called Genpower in Milford Haven.

July 30, 200818 yr Someone stole my wife's debit card number. Thus far we've financed ring tones, cell phone minutes and accessories. They even had the security code on the back so they must've jacked it from somewhere online. They only hit us up for small charges but they made a bunch within a two day period. Needless to say, I'm not a happy camper. I've since canceled the card and may have to cancel that checking account. We've sent emails and made phone calls to the companies and they've been helpful, for the part. But, what a pain in the rear end... Has this happened to anyone else? I tried to get it back before you realized it was gone.

July 30, 200818 yr I should've known when I saw two fishing rods and some nightcrawlers... :ylsuper: If you find out who did, I'll be glad to help FIX the problem.
July 30, 200818 yr I was at the ATL airport one morning when my wife called asking if there was a reason I was trying to buy tickets to Phoenix on Southwest. Fortuantely, SWA called before approving the purchase.
July 30, 200818 yr Author :ylsuper: If you find out who did, I'll be glad to help FIX the problem. I know it's highly unlikely that 1) we'll ever find who did it and 2) I will know them. But, if I did.......
July 30, 200818 yr I had this happen last year. My debit card was stolen online from what I can tell. Noone took the number out of my wallet. They only used it for dating websites. My bank gave me all my money back but it was a pain doing it.
July 30, 200818 yr My cousin's debit card had over $5,000 spent on it from someone in Nigeria. The bank took care of it for him, but he still has no idea how they got his number.
July 30, 200818 yr I didn't have my physical card stolen but someone (I believe Margaritas) swiped the number, and in November I had over $800 in charges from a Mexican mall. At that time I also had 6 or 7 pending transactions, and they all ended up bouncing. It took about a week but I received a new card/id and all the bounce transactions were voided.
July 30, 200818 yr I know it's highly unlikely that 1) we'll ever find who did it and 2) I will know them. But, if I did.......Can they provide you with an address, to where any items might have been mailed.

They didn't take her card. It was something similar, I think. IMO, it had to be someone from a restaurant or it was stolen online because they had the security code on the back, PLUS she still had the card.
