Corbin is Corbin....since when did clasees matter to them.

I heard from a Bell County person that Steve Jewell stopped playing becuase he did not like the way Dudley Hilton ran his program. True or not I can't say but I can say I believed the person who told me that.

 

I believe that Coach Jewell just does not like Coach Hilton and maybe some others on his staff. When either of the schools have a different coach, then I would look for the series to resume...........but probably not before.

I am not a fan of Corbin, Bell, or Middlesboro and I'm certainly no "insider". However, I think it is an injustice for so many who know even less than I to be condemning Corbin and Middlesboro's decision not to play Bell. I think both of these schools have proven by history that fear is not what drives their scheduling decisions. BGP rules would not permit an adequate explanation of what has transpired between the schools but I think it safe to say that bad blood accounts more for the lack of contact than concern over losses.

 

Note that I'm not saying either of the city schools are justified in their decision nor do I necesarily agree with their reasons. I'm merely stating that I do not believe it to be fear.

Any coach has got to do what they believe is best for their program. I will say this Kenny Roark and Steve Jewell are class people and run a class program at their schools. That both take great pride in the programs they have been put in charge of. Fear in who they play has nothing to do with the problems at Bell.

What Hilton said is true, they've built a very good program. You could look at it as a compliment, though. He is saying that Corbin and M'boro are good teams.

Regardless of class Corbin and Middlesboro have strong programs, and when you play the tough games it just makes you better. Corbin never backed down from playing good teams in the 70's, 80's and 90s, playing in the (now defunct) ThoroughBred Bowl, and traveling all over the state, taking the likes of GRC and Bryan Station, or course they were down the years that Corbin played them but my point I think is valid. Corbin could compete with them, and for whatever reason does not play them.

 

I agree and I hate to see those great game like M'boro and Bell had in the late 90's not be played anymore. Those games were wars.

Think of the money that those schools are loosing. It must be a very good issue that keeps the Jackets and Hounds away. People would usually miss there own team playing to come and watch the Cats, and the Jackets/Hounds play. Sometimes you gotta swallow a little pride for the greater good. I never said it was fear, and I don't think it is the reason they don't play. BUT those are games not only fans of the schools, but fans across SEKY would love to see played. Certainly there is bad blood between these schools,(that is what makes great rivalries) but what better place to settle differences than on the confines of the football field. Sometimes ADULTS (myself included) get in the way of what it is all about.

I will not say that Coach Jewell and Coach Hilton do not get along. That is what all signs point to but I do not know that to say it as a fact. Therefore, I'll refrain from that assumption. I cannot speak for Middlesboro but do know that fear isn't the reason Corbin and Bell do not play. Fear might not be the reason BC and MHS play either but unlike Middlesboro, Corbin and Bell usually alternate wins in the series with an occasional 2 or 3 year win streak for either school. The Corbin vs. Bell rivalry was about as even as one could get.

 

Maybe the Tommy Greer thing could have some merit. I think it really started getting heated and came to a boil when T.R. Christopher moved to Corbin summer before last. Bell went to the state and was able to hold the transfer so he couldn't play at Corbin resulting in T.R. moving back to Bell.

I could see WHITLEY being miffed at Tommy Greeer after his comings and goings down there, and the T.R. Christopher deal Corbin would be a little more than miffed I guess but wouldn't that be the pot calling the kettle black?

 

I just think that this would be a great game year in and year out, and they should be playing. It would draw attention to the kids and that should be the focus. The more attention they get the higher the chance they would have a maybe getting some $$$$$ to help pay for their college tution.

 

Some years Corbin would have the advantage some years Bell, but I think as long as Coach Hilton is there, Bell has a bit of an advantage, but there is no shame in that, Heck Dudley has the advantage on many coaches.
