Needs only 12 saves to pass Eckersley for #5 all-time saves, and 46 to move to #4. He has 20 saves already this year, so if all goes well, he should be #5 before year end, and #4 sometime next year. C - Curt Schilling - Nope. D - Pedro Martinez - Undecided, but leaning towards no. The .693 win percentage is something very special. But on the other hand 212 wins is pretty far down the totem pole. There is no way that Billy Wagner gets in if Lee Smith doesn't.

July 11, 200818 yr There is no way that Billy Wagner gets in if Lee Smith doesn't. I think Lee Smith will be in, he deserves it. It's just a matter of time. The true value of relievers is just now being appreciated.

July 13, 200818 yr A, B, and C, yes.....not yet for D I'd put B and C for sure, A is really close, and D has some work remaining. Pedro will make the Hall and probably on the first ballot. You have to realize that he's one of the first of the generation of pitchers to pitch exclusively in 5 man rotations and on pitch counts. 300 wins will not longer be the benchmark that it was for the current crop of pitchers. On Baseball tonight they were discussing Maddux, Johnson and Pedro all starting today and Kurkijan said that a rating system had Maddux as the 7th best pitcher of all-time with Pedro 11th and Johnson 12th. If Pedro retires right now he has 212 wins (86th all-time), a .693 career winning percentage (3rd all-time), a 2.86 ERA which is not only 1st among current players but the league ERA during his career is 4.50 and he has led the league in ERA 5 times. He has 3061 strikeouts which is 15th all-time and a career average of 10.15 Ks per 9 innings which is 3rd all-time. He has 3 Cy Young awards, 3 Pitcher of the Year Awards, he won the pitching Triple Crown in 1999 and has a World Series Championship. He has the 3rd best all-time WHIP and Hits Allowed Ration and the Best all-time Adjusted ERA compared to league average. He's easily in.
