Dirtiest NBA player of all time?

Featured Replies

How many dirty moments, does it take to qualify. His act was an assault and just because a guy throws elbows for 10 years, makes him more dirty. Not in my book.

By your logic the crown should go to Artest or Jackson...

Here's a video that was part of a story on this tragic situation.

Its as gruesome to watch today as it was the first time I saw it. I read a book on this a few years ago that I would highly recommend. Its called "The Punch" by John Feinstein.

I stated who I thought and didn't mention either. Both of these guys, are just punks who happen to play in the NBA. No different than a lot of the former Pistons, or current Rasheed Wallace.

Another name for discussion, would be fomer Portland Trailblazer Maurice Lucas, who played several years ago.

Basketball is not a sport, where an assault needs to happen. The punch was dirty, viscous, intentional and one of the worst I have ever seen.

The question was dirtiest of all-time and thus, he gets my vote.

.

"Needs to happen?" Obviously not. However, it would be naive to think that in a sport with 10 big men constantly running into each other that there would not be emotions that spill over. Once they spill over and a fight breaks out, these men are going to defend themselves. I don't call that "dirty." Any spontaneous reaction that happens when a guy sees another guy running at him is unfortunate but understandable.

Its the ugliest event in the history of the NBA but , again, it doesn't meet the standard defintion of "dirty" nor does it meet the standards of the question posed.

If he had thrown that punch while play was going on and Rudy was just running by him, no questions its dirty.

I.

1977 Finals - Maurice and Dawkins trying to look like Ali and Frazier. Classic.

Than I must be naive and my standard of dirty, is greatly different than yours.

Marvin "Bad News" Barnes was a thug, par exellance.

Marvin "Bad News" Barnes was a thug, par excellence.
Also may have had the longest, most boniest arms as well and knew how to use them.

Bill Laimbeer, hands down. His career was built on a 12 to 15 foot jump shot and dirty under the boards play.

What about Kent Benson? Remember his elbowing Kareem in the 70's and later Kareem broke his hand on Benson's face?

Cornbread Maxwell was no angel.

Maurice Lucas was an enforcer but never thought he was that "dirty" of a player.

Knew how to use a tire iron as well, apparently. What a character he was. I believe it was he who once said, "I ain't getting in no time machine" when he looked at the itinerary of a flight leaving Louisville for St. Louis, and the arrival time was three minutes earlier than when it left L'ville (because of the switch from ET to CT).

Classic. I think that was one of many by him.

Bruce Bowen of this generation of players.

Lambieer gets my vote.

I am going to throw a name out there that no one has mentioned, probably because most his incidents happened in college. But Christian Laettner.

Don't you mean his "one incident?" I don't really recall Laettner ever doing anything like that except that one time. UK fans can't claim multiple fouls just because they got hurt indirectly by Laettner. Doesn't work that way.

I've never really thought of Dennis Rodman as a dirty player. I just think he outworked everybody else.
