June 28, 200818 yr I can see something is wrong with his stuff. So can you. I doubt Harang think his stuff is looking good... I see something wrong with his control on his stuff, not his stuff. Harang's velocity has been up and down over the stretch since the relief outing. Every Major League pitcher goes through phases where their velocity falls for a few starts. It's the fact that Harang isn't getting ahead of batters and can't throw anything except a fastball for a strike that is getting him into trouble.

June 28, 200818 yr 0-0 after 1 You would think it's a matter of time before Thompson gives up 5 or 6 runs in an inning. While you give him credit for making the pitches to get out of trouble, you can't keep putting runners on every inning and not get burned eventually.
June 28, 200818 yr He's grooving all of his pitches, not just the fastball. How many times has he been hit hard up 0-2? Way too many. It's his stuff. All of it... He gets hit hard up 0-2 because he throws pitches right down the middle. I could hit a 92 MPH fastball right down the middle if i knew it was coming. He's not able to throw his slider for a strike often enough to keep it in the back of the hitters mind right now.

June 28, 200818 yr He's not throwing fastballs up 0-2. Come on... When he gets hit hard 0-2 they are fastballs. I can remember one specifically against the Marlins. 0-2 fastball right down the middle to Cantu. He puts it off the wall for a double. Any other pitch he throws 0-2 is a ball more often than not because he can't throw anything else for a strike and hasn't been able to for a month. Then the count goes 1-2 then 2-2 and the batter knows a fastball is coming and just sits on it and crushes it. Harang's problems center around not being able to throw a slider or change up for strikes very much right now.

June 28, 200818 yr A month? Strange... I've admitted that the relief outing might have something to do with his recent struggles. Either way, the problem should have been taken care of by now.

June 28, 200818 yr Would have been easy to skip him at least once with the recent off days. Didn't happen... I'd love to see him skip a start, but I don't think its going to happen. We'll have to see how he pitches after the All-Star break I guess.
June 28, 200818 yr CC has found his groove, which means the Reds best chance to score any runs won't be until the Indians bullpen comes in.
