June 27, 200818 yr Why wouldn't the SS take that throw? If he can get there then its his job to take that throw from the pitcher. No way its an error on Hairston. Volquez's double pump then throw is what made him jump off the bag. Right handed hitter... Regardless of your philosophy on who covers, the real problem was the lack of communication - between Phillips, Hairston & Volquez. It doesn't take much. A simple tip of the cap or point gets the job done.
June 27, 200818 yr oops.... scoring change. Error on Volquez, means only 4 "ernies" . ERA after 4IP = 2.00
June 27, 200818 yr oops.... scoring change. Error on Volquez, means only 4 "ernies" . ERA after 4IP = 2.00 If he gives us 15 like he did before this one he is allowed to have a bad start every now and then.
June 27, 200818 yr Drove in the winning run last night. He's not going to hit .500 Of course. However, what we're saying is that even future HOFers or future Larry Walkers struggle when the hit the bigs. Logic would say that the word has gotten around on how pitch him and now he has to adjust. In summary, our expectations are too high. Drove in the winning run last night? So did Paul Janish in his first game.
June 27, 200818 yr If he hits .270 or better I will be pleased this year. I agree and I think the Reds would be thrilled as well.
June 27, 200818 yr If he gives us 15 like he did before this one he is allowed to have a bad start every now and then. Absolutely.... I have no problem with this. I had a weird feeling that this would be the night he got touched up. He seems to have the mindset that will allow him to shake this off and come back strong next time out. I wouldn't be surprised to see him put up all zeros next time.
June 27, 200818 yr Reds start off the road strip strong at 2-0 and played well in that 3rd game. Now they go to Cleveland 3-3 and considering who is pitching this weekend, it will be a tad interesting to see how it plays out.
June 27, 200818 yr Brantley said he was dropping his elbow. Maybe Dick Pole should sit in the booth to see what the problems are.
June 27, 200818 yr Maybe Dick Pole should sit in the booth to see what the problems are. I don't think he is going to be around much longer.
June 27, 200818 yr Right handed hitter... Regardless of your philosophy on who covers, the real problem was the lack of communication - between Phillips, Hairston & Volquez. It doesn't take much. A simple tip of the cap or point gets the job done. Hairston and Phillips were both there. They may have been in each others way but i'm not sure. It was a Double Play that should have easily been turned though.
June 27, 200818 yr Hairston and Phillips were both there. They may have been in each others way but i'm not sure. It was a Double Play that should have easily been turned though. They were both standing on second. Volquez got confused and didn't know who to throw it to, and then Hairston made a poor play. The problem is that they should've established who's taking the throw from the pitcher. Like I said, it doesn't take much. A tip of the cap or a quick point and you're good to go. But then again, Volquez should've been throwing it to the base instead of the fielder. Do you think Volquez would've known what to do had there been a bunt down the 3rd base line?
