I thought it was a very good series..

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the first 5 games decided by 10pts or less? I think that alone made it a very close series.

 

Using point differential is not a good way to measure the quality of the series. How many times have we seen teams cut big deficits to small deficits over the years? It happens quite a bit and it seemed to in this series as well.

 

The intensity was not there like it was in the 80s. Part of that is on the league and not the players as the league frowns upon letting any physical play and altercations happen in today's game. When you're playing a supposed big rival in the NBA finals and there's a general softness to the play, it takes a lot of way from it in my eyes.

 

We all have different expectations or like different styles and game flow. This series left me bored.

Congratulations to the Celtics...I was way off on this matchup. I thought the Lakers matched up great with Boston, but it turned out to be the complete opposite. The Celtics were the better team, plain and simple. Their defense and physical play really overmatched the Lakers (from what little I watched anyway).

 

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, I got to watch very little of this series. The Lakers are my favorite team, so I obviously wanted them to win, but to be honest, after Los Angeles, Boston was my next preference to win the title. So, this loss isn't quite as bad as it would have been otherwise.

 

I'm glad to see a great player like KG finally win a title. Also, I've always been a fan of Paul Pierce, so I was happy that he played well and won MVP.

 

As for the Lakers, I think this team just needs more experience. When the playoffs started, I felt they were a year away from really competing for a title, which is why I didn't think they'd beat the Spurs. So, as a Lakers fan, I'm excited about what they accomplished this season, and even more excited about the future. With Bynum coming back, I think this team is primed for a multi-title run and I think this year was a huge plus for their younger and more inexperienced players to learn what it takes to compete at the very highest level.

 

We might see a re-match next year...it's hard to see anyone other than these two teams being favored to win their respective conferences.

 

Anyway, kudos to the Celtics for a well deserved 2008 NBA Championship.

The title of World Champion is debatable given hoe our NBA "stars" have done in recent international play. There could be 5 eskimos out there that would ice out the Celtics!

It was imbarrassing to be a Laker fan and watch them quit, but great as an NBA fan to see Boston win it all again. These were my 2 favorite teams.

This Laker team just wasn't quite "ready" to win an NBA title...this year's experience will help them develop the mental toughness and work ethic required to become a championship team. They far exceeded my expectations, so I'm not disappointed in the finish.

What a letdown of a series. Not exactly the 80s version like the league and fans had hoped.

 

I certainly agree on the bolded part. I don't think that the Celtics or the Lakers are better than thier counterparts were in the 80's. We are talking Pierce, Garnett,Allen, Rondo.......Kobe + nobody. Comparable to the likes of Jabbar, Majic,Cooper, Rambus........ Bird, McHale, Parrish, Johnson and it could go on with ones that am sre that I am leaving out. JMO but the 80's version of both teams were much better than the 08' version.

We'll see how it goes, but if I had to choose between the Lakers and Celtics for the 2009 title, I'd still take LA. Assuming they stay healthy, getting Bynum back is obviously huge, but Ariza will be a big plus as well, IMO. Also, they'll have an entire season to mesh with a championship caliber roster from day one. And, the loss to Boston should go a long way toward showing them what it's going to take to take that next step.

 

Against Boston the most glaring weakness was their toughness, particularly on defense and more specifically in the paint. I think having Ariza all season will help their team defense. Bynum will help their defense as well, especially in the paint. A healthy and improved Bynum could have a huge impact for the Lakers in a matchup vs. a team like Boston who dominated the paint for the most part.

 

But, that's another discussion for another day I suppose...the Celtics were clearly the better team this season and they should be just as good next year, if not better.

If it weren't for the Pats, the city of Boston would hold all 3 major sports titles right now....How crazy is that?

Is there anybody in the NBA better at drawing fouls than Paul Pierce? He's the best in the league, IMO, of drawing contact and reacting in a way to draw the whistle. His reactions are more subtle than an all out flop...typically just a jerk of the head or something, but it works.

Not really...only one team gets that title of "Champions". Boston is the Champs this year. Everyone else lost...they are losers. Including the Spurs.
