If the move were in any way for “athletic reasons” you would be 100% correct. :thumb:

 

Not every family chooses to move just so their kids can participate in an athletic environment guaranteed to “showcase” their particular skills.

 

There is no way any reasonable mind could review the facts of this move, and define it as being for “athletic advantage.”

 

It’s funny how everyone seems so dogmatic about there being more to life than sports, but when a family actually places priority on “things other than sports” they’re “off” somehow. The simple fact is that sometimes job opportunities and overall family benefits supersede individual goals or desires. In this sense, a family is the ultimate “team.”

 

Robbie Barber is sacrificing his sophomore season of golf, and surrendering a starting position on a lot of other school’s basketball teams, just so his family can be in a better situation for all of them. Successful competitors know that “team” achievement has to come ahead of personal glory. In this sense, I admire him as a team player in the truest sense, and wish him the very best. :thumb:

FB, I like and respect you. I appreciate that you defend all the kids at Rose Hill, but come on. You, justifiably so, will have a lot of trouble explaining three transfers from one school to one basketball rich school in the same off season. I even gave Euton the benefit of the doubt, and understood about his father loosing his job. I even tried to give Jackson the benefit of doubt, and yes I know the inside of both situations.

 

Flannery, I started having doubts. But, with Barber now transferring to Scott County, I can no longer say that it is just coincidence.

I didn't feel it was my place to mention names, so I didn't say anything earlier, but now that this move is out I will say, I appreciate the Barber family and all they have done for me and my family as well as there contributions to Rose Hill.

This is a quality family. I know the situation and I also know that Robbie is prepared to follow what ever ruling the KHSAA passes down, even if he sets out a year. I will add this should not be the case.

I will allways support Robbie, Josh, and the entire Barber family.

As FB posted there are more important things than athletics. I will miss you all.

A player is automatically ineligible when they have played in a high school sport, after 8th grade, and transfer to another school. They are ineligible until ruled eligible by the KHSAA.

 

Bylaw 6. Transfer Rule

Sec. 1) Domestic Students

Any student who has been enrolled in grades nine (9) through

twelve (12) and has participated in any varsity game in any sport

at any school following enrollment in grade nine (9) and who then

transfers schools shall be ineligible for interscholastic athletics at

any level in any sport for one year from the date of enrollment in

the new school.

The Commissioner has discretion (but is not required) to waive

the period of ineligibility set forth above if one of the following

exceptions has been met. Determinations of whether a student

shall be granted a waiver pursuant to this rule shall be based on

the circumstances existing as of the date of enrollment at the new

school. The KHSAA shall not recognize as grounds for a waiver of

the period of ineligibility an argument that the educational needs

of the transferring students would be better served through a

transfer.

Very well put!!! WAY to many coincidences to only be coincidences . . . :eek:

I heard from my head coach that the Hall Kid from Fairview did indeed move to Glasgow. Reason because dad got head coaching job there for basketball.

It is painfully obvious that this whole board instead of BGP should be Elliott County Prep. People there is no way on this beautiful earth God almighty created for us C. Knipp or Morgan is in the top 20 in the region, they do hustle but, so do 8th graders no disrespect intended. Also IMO Fairview is still the class of the 64th and Raceland in the 63rd.

 

Will you please rank the top 20 in the region? In all seriousness, I want to hear the 20 players that should be ranked in front of Knipp and Morgan.

Who said anything about Morgan?? Only thing I have read recently is those who say he might not play next year. As for Chris, hard to evaluate him one way or the other when he has Ferguson, the twins, and his brother Timmy getting all the headlines and the majority of the shots. He has a lot of talent surrounding him and they only have one basketball after the tip. A lot of speculation on my part or anyone elses on how he would perform on another 16th region team. My take from watching him play 20 games or so is that he would do very well on some other teams with lesser talent. I don't think Elliott gets anymore build up than anyone else and that BGP is an equal opportunity board. In fact, Elliott when ranked last year got raked pretty good that they didn't play anybody and that when they did they lost. Some of those were won over after they took Mason to the wire in Rupp Arena, but my personal observation is that they still have a lot of people (outside the region) that still think they can't hang with a Mason, Scott, Male, Eastern, J-Town, Manual, etc. Many of those won't be won over unless Elliott gets to Saturday morning or evening in Rupp next year and beats two or three top 5 ranked teams.

 

 

I think Elliott County will win the state championship next season and that will be my prediction on August 13, 2008.
