Clay Co. made it to two state finals with six players, winning one (Ritchie Farmer teams). Elliott will be fine with six. Mays doesn't seem to like to sub anyway. Someone mentioned the Hall kid from Fairview, he is outstanding. Also, Greenup Co. has been way down, within two years that is going to change. They have a tremendous amount of young talent.

Hope you are right and I have an invalid concern. The seniors play smart and didn't get in foul trouble last year, but T. Knipp during the season had foul problems in several games, but even he played smarter as the year progressed and now he has 2 years of varsity experience plus has been getting some love from Jody Demling (Courier-Journal) on his great summer play. Also, if you get deep into March and play OT games then depth can become an issue with tired legs and short shots of which Elliott depends alot on their ability to shoot the ball.

 

On the comment Morgan not playing I sure hope that doesn't come true. He provides some size (6'3"), experience, can rebound & shoot well from mid-range, and is a good defensive player that they sure need.

I know Ferg, Ethan and Evan are really good players but if you don't think Hall is close to their talent level I wouldn't want you recruiting for me. The kid can flat out play.

 

Didn't mean to offend ,I think Hall is a very nice ball-player , but I feel the twins and Ferguson is a step ahead ,the twins in quickness and Ferguson in shooting , all three in defense. Hall may be the 4th best in the region.

I would have to agree with BIGCAT on this top 10 list with one exception. I would put Evan Faulkner and Barnhill as tied for #3 and T. Knipp #5. Also I would have Hall at Fairview at #8 instead of Bair. Bair would be at my #11.

 

Rose Hill's young players are getting rave reviews from the RH fans including freshman to be Terry. None of us have seen him play?? Maybe he will make the Top 10 by year's end, but must be proved on the court. They have made comments that he was the best 8th grader in the state last year. How's that?? I have a hard time seeing all the varsity players in the state, much less all the 8th graders in the state. Only the season ahead will tell....

 

I am going to have to agree Mike Terry is one of the best incoming freshmen and Rose Hill 8th grade team has a lot of talent on there so don't count them out!!:

I really dont know what games you have watched Mike Terry play, but I watched many RoseHill summer games and saw him shy away from contact and pressure. Yes he can knock down a show when he is wide open, but who can't? He is going to have to improve his game alot from now to regular season to be considered one of the top Freshman in the state

The Terry kid will be fine, what 8th grader doesn't have a problem with pressure. By the way the thread was Top players in the 16th not the state.

Mike Terry is the real deal. His older sister (Laura) didn't get a lot of recognition, either. This just motivated her even more. Keep overlooking MT and he'll be overlooking everyone else on his way to the basket.

Well let Mike Terry be the best freshman in the region I dont care, when the year is over the 62nd will contain the best players and will see East and Elliott compete for the Region crown once again

That's a big lineup for sure, but after seeing Barnhill and Kennedy both the other day I would say that both may have hit another growing spell.

I think east will be better than people think.They have so much size,look at this lineup. colt barnhill 6'6",devine kawada 6'6", mark pemberton 6'4",cholin kennedy6'6",dillon mcdaivid 6'4", with tyler jackson guard, kyle bair guard, caleb adams guard, I almost forgot the clay boy at 6'4". This team will be hard to handle.

 

Yes they are very tall and were tall last year. You take 6'7" Timmy Knipp out and Elliott is very very short with everybody else at 6'1". But, they beat East four (4) times last year including the district and regional final. With the Faulkner twins and Ferguson size doesn't seem to matter. They can flat out play against 5'10" guys or 6'10" guys. They beat Rose Hill in the semis of the regional and they had 6'8" Euton, 6'4" Arthur, and 6'4" Jackson. They took Mason County to the wire and they had 6'7" Miller, 6'7" Setty, and 6'4" Middleton. Those boys have the heart of lions and play much bigger than their six foot one inch frames.

 

But, East should be the 2d best team in the 16th region again this year. First game is December 23d, 2008 with East Carter @ Elliott County.

Well last time I seen Barnhill he wasnt 6'6 and Timmy Knipp wasn't a factor in any of those 4 games. I agree the Faulkner's and Ferguson can not only play against anyone in the state, but probably the entire U.S.. Elliott wont have maybe the best 6th man ever to rely on in the region this year, I think everyone knows who I'm talking about. Watching East play this summer I think they will be a completely different team to watch compared to last, even though they lost Drew Johnson. Colt Barnhill, Devin Kawada, and Tyler Jackson looked very good in all summer action

Rule 13

The key for East to take the crown this year is Bair. You know what Barnhill and Jackson will give you, but if Bair plays the way he did in spurts last year they could go to Rupp. Elliott still has to be the heavy favorite, but things happen, tournament time is just one game, win or go home. I do like the raiders overall depth and size. I think Barnhill has to be 6'6 or so, he is gonna be a force this season if he adds just a little more aggresiveness. He is the top post in the 16th by far. Anyways top players in the region no particular order...

Faulkner twins, Ferguson, Barnhill, Cameron Hall, Jackson, Boyles, Metz.
