Did Shelby County graduate a lot? They played Mason COunty as tough as anyone during the Sweet 16.

 

Shelby Co should be solid but I think they may be a year away.

 

Not sure exactly who they graduated but I know they had a pretty talented sophomore class this past year with Nigel Beech, Boomer Beckley, Cache Tomlinson, and Donovan Johnson.

 

Tomlinson and Beech should be the top 2 players for them IMO.

Question....How many of these players on these teams play other sports? On some of these teams we may not see the "real" team till about late Jan. I know for GRC Williams, Rogers and Pervis all play football. If Vinney Zollo come to GRC I know he has expressed interests in playing scoccer. Just curious as to the top teams that have been mentioned.....what players play multi-sports....which could delay them joining the basketball team at the beginning of the season ?

 

I have limited knowledge on the subject but I do know that most of Hazard's guys play football and they are likely to go deep into the football playoffs this year. Michael Campbell is a star football player.

 

Keshawn Simpson was a star on Madison Central's football team before an injury cost him his basketball season. He may be playing football and basketball next season for the Indians.

 

Finally, some local info has Montgomery County Nic Hendrix deciding to focus on basketball and sit out football this year. However, I have heard that Ty Coombs and Cody Curtis may be playing both sports this seaon.

 

I will know more when the KY Football yearbook comes out in July from the Cats Pause.

 

Football can sure have an impact if you can remember a few years ago when Apollo destroyed Warren Central early in the year only to be embarrased by about 40 points by the Dragons at Rupp in March.

Interesting. It looks like Holmes and Scott County are the only two that can justify being in the top 5.

 

BGElite, I'll go ahead & let the cat out of the bag for you for this upcoming season. We know you cannot stand Elliott Co, any small school, or any team east of Winchester. You have been instigating this for 2 years so we all know what your motive is here. Though I was shocked to see where you had recently bragged on Shelby Valley a bit. Which is definitely one team to look out for this season, especially if the Newsome kid makes a good come back from major knee surgery.

I know for Holmes none of the basketball players play football. Terrence Clark did last year but I believe he was the only one. Basketball has slowly but surely become the primary and only sport for those who play. I think this is one of the reasons you've seen the repeated success of that program over the past 4 years.

Don't see it unless Marty Cline is a bonafide miracle worker. The Maroons have Jon Hood back but little else proven to go with him.

 

Madisonville's best chance to make noise was last season ... with the right coach, they might have.

I think that was destined to happen -any time we start a "top teams for next year" thread, we will have a lot of "my dad can beat up your dad-type posts.

GRC is a top 10 team with Zollo, and a top 20 team without him. I know summer ball is a little different but that game was not close if what people are posting on here is correct.

 

Sanford was out about the last 8 or so minutes of the game due to a hip injury. It was within 10 until he came out.

Your not going to use a scrimmage as logic for LexCath not being very good are you? They were without Botkin, who is a decent player. He plays very hard. Sanford is going to be 1 of the top players in the state this year. Also they have 3 impact young players coming in next year with Leach and the 2 from Bryan Station who I have seen who are going to be good.

I think too much is being put in to summer games. The year South Laurel won the state championship, Holmes beat them by 20 + during the summer (both teams had all of their players) but lost in the first round of the state tournament to Warren Central and SL beat them rather handily in the championship.
