Also, GRC beat Lex Cath last week in a summer camp by 15 and that was without Zollo(he was on the bench on crutches). I don't think Catholic had Botkin though, but Sanford played pretty much the whole game before getting hurt a bit late.

 

I will go ahead and list mine as of right now.

 

1. Scott Co.-clear favorite

2. Elliot Co.- best team chemistry with a lot of talent

3. GRC- tons of talent and have mixture of few upperclassmen and the sophs.

4. Holmes- Pittman & Company will be tough for the next couple years.

I think these 4 have the best shot at coming away with a Championship.

These next 6 could probably fall in any of these slots.

6. PRP

7. Lex Cath

8. Hazard

9. Dunbar

There are other schools that could be close such as Corbin, Adair Co., Mason Co., and some NKY and other Louisville schools.

 

This is a preseason opinion so I guess thats all we have to go by as far as games go, but I wouldn't put much stock in a summer game.

 

Also, who all did LexCath have on the floor without Botkin besides Sanford? Did they have anyone new? Or was it basically some of their JV players from last year moving up.

I know not to put much stuck into the summer games because both teams have people missing, just thought I would throw it out there. Not sure if they were new kids or just people that have come up through the system but they had a couple really athletic guys around 6'1-6'3 ish range that ran the floor well and could shoot pretty decent. They had a couple bangers down low but I would say that will probably be their weakness this upcoming year. Of course, Sanford was the man for them. Maybe some Lex Cath fans could help us out if those players were new or just came up through the system.

Williams is the point guard and main man running the show. He's only 5'9 but will probably be the fastest guy on the court no matter what. Awesome handles and an excellent pass first point who always hustles. Best defender I'd say.

 

Hatton is about 6'2 who can shoot the three and take his man off the dribble.

 

Rogers will probably be the 5th starter and he's about 6'4-6'5. Big body, rebounds well and finishes good around the rim.

 

Another big body off the bench will be Pervis. He's about 6'5-6'6 who has a pretty decent shot. He needs to get a little more physical but that will come as he gets older.

Exactly, Boone beat GRC by 14 this past week, but the five on the floor in summer ball are hodge podge combinations at any given time, so it's hard to tell how good teams really are in summer ball. I say if a team is losing every game in the summer, chances are, they won't be good. However, winning all or majority of the summer games don't necessarily translate to a great team (maybe good, but not great).

You are looking way too far down the road. How did these teams fare against top 30 teams last year? Are you saying these are the four top teams in the state, hands down?

 

Not saying they are the four top teams in the state hands down, as I know there will be in state teams who will probably beat them, just saying they look to, on paper atleast, have the best chance at winning the sweet 16 next year.

 

If I had to predict I'd say each team, outside of SC, will lose anywhere from 3-5 games in state. It really depends on when they meet other top teams in the state. SC for example will be most vulnerable early on as they will still be getting used to eachother.

 

Holmes is another prime example. Lost to Male by 5 in a tournament in December playing with 3 new starters (Clark, Johnson brothers) and Pittman not playing much, but IMO would have beat them had they played in Feb.

 

No doubt there are other talented teams in the state who have just as good a shot as everyone else, but I just feel at this point, these teams are the most proven and look to be the toughest on paper considering what they have.

Williams was very quick. He did not look like 5'9" to me last week however. He Looked more like 5'6 or 5'7.

 

Hatton looked very good. Pervis was athletic.

Soneone said Stenzel didn't even play the second half due to knee injury. It's hard to play 3 games in four hours.

I actually really like Franklin Co. with Donovan and Meyer back. I think the 11th is just too tough though. While teams like Lexcath and Bryan Station lost key players, they just seem to reload every year.

Bryan Station does have have a kid 6'8" to 6'9" that is playing this summer. He looks like he could help them. Their guard tandom of Morones and Ashford is argueably the best in the 11th.

 

As far as Lex Cath......Do they have any incoming transfers?......their Junior to be class is not real strong.......they have some good sophmores to be that don't have much varsity experience. Botkin and Sanford are strong.

 

All I'm saying about Franklin County is, they will be senior loaded, they have athletes (Deron Hicks D1 football), and have 4 varsity players that are noticeably improved since end of season. They go 6'8", 6'6", 6'4" 275lbs, 6'3",6'3", 6'0". They will go a solid 7 deep. I'll leave it at that and we will see what happens.

You can't really go by last year. Most of these teams will be a lot different than they were this past year. Elliot Co. being the only exception since they have pretty much their exact team back.

Actually Elliot Co is the only team who you can really give a true answer for as to what they should or shouldn't do.

 

Scott Co got two big time transfers in Euton and Jackson and a good role player in Flannery from Boone.

 

Holmes returns 3 starters from the state championship team but also lost 6 seniors (Avery, Clark, Henderson, Nelson, Humphrey, Hall). On the flip side of that though they also got a big impact transfer in 6'3 G Housley to fill the void left by Henderson and they have a 6'6 freshman coming in. They will be noticably longer and more athletic this year than last.

 

GRC returns 4 starters and will add Zollo but they also lost 4 seniors who were very good role players last year and did a lot to help lead that team by making sacrifices.

 

All 4 of those teams will have a very good starting 5. I think we need to look at their benches because that's where the games are going to be won. Holmes didn't have one of the top 2 starting 5's in the state last year but made it as far as they did because they had depth and top to bottom were probably the best TEAM in the state.
