Let's not act like he was dominant. He walked 4 in 6 innings and gave up 4 hits and although he was hurt by errors they were hard hit balls. The next time they might not be errors and if he walks that many he'll be in deep. He was only decent today.

The pop up to Janish that he missed, and the error on Junior were not hit all that hard. The Homer E was a tough play, but again not a play that was a result of a well hit ball. The Phillies hit Homer pretty hard at times, but most of the well struck balls were outs...

I see what you're saying, he wasn't awful. However, Janish did drop a ball he should have caught but he also caught a ball that should have dropped. Homer was impressive at times and he can be the real deal but he can't walk that many and still expect to get results.

I could argue that 2 of the walks were his last two batters faced, but that's just a part of the whole picture. My biggest concern when looking at Homer long term is who got the 4 hits. 6,7,8 and the Rollins sub. He impressed me with how he battled the best of the best in facing the first five guys in Philly. He was mostly fastball/change with a little slider and curve mixed in. I'm starting to wonder if Homer isn't better suited for a late inning role. We'll see how it plays out soon enough...
June 6, 200818 yr One wonders if Homer is going to be the next Ryan Wagner. Completely different situation. Wagner was brought up after a few months in the minors and had early success because of unfamiliarity with his "slurve" and didn't have much else behind it. It usually wasn't thrown for a strike so once hitters were able to pick it up they just layed off and he walked people. Homer has spent his fair share of time in the minors, and hasn't been rushed. His control just lacks sometimes and occasionally he lets his emotion get the best of him.

I hadn't thought about it like that. He could be intriguing in a setup/closer role. I know the Reds have Coco right now but he would definately be a valuable trade commodity. Very interesting, the Reds could use Homer to shorten the game to a 6-7 inning game or to close it out if they deal Coco. I'm definately interested and I hadn't considered this......
